I had some horrid old downlights that took 100W GLS lamps, and half the lamp was above the reflector almost, putting a typical LED lamp with the top half in it being metal did 2 things, stopped the roof cavity lighting up like it was intentional, and also made a 8w lamp light the room better than the previous 100w incandescent lamp did. I had the limitless LEDs in them for ages with their CCT varience and RGB and they were bright enough, and when on white were better than the GLS incandesents because, 1, not grotty orange, and 2, better spread since the filiment of the GLS seemed to make many hotspots around the room whereas the LED was more even. It might have been better with a frosted GLS lamp but I never tried those in them.
