While some of the places like the lounge and corridor has two sets of lights.

The bathroom and the bedroom can only be turned on from one side.
To turn it on I have to flick the switch up. To turn it off you flick it down.
Is this normal in NZ?

Standard in NZ is that up is off, down is on. Your previous post implied you wanted the opposite, but it might have been a misunderstanding.

 

 

 

Your switches aren't these Legrand ones by any chance? They're easy to install upside down and I've seen it done by at least two different sets of people.

why don't you post a picture of one of the light switches, tell us if the light is on or off in the picture, then we can all get a better idea about what you are talking about
