Sutton brand is generally a good option and shouldn't have any problems getting through that job, but if you have had good luck with the Bosch brand in the past then that set you link to seems like a good deal.

Your self tapering drill bit didn't run into some reinforcing steel by any chance?

Good point but no, the bar chairs looked like standard 65mm so I had 50-70mm clearance where I was drilling, I was very careful with that given the amount of leftover steel they'd used. I also ran the 8mm holes first as a check and they didn't encounter anything.
