I am looking to source some better screwdriver bits. My current ones are fairly cheap and whilst they do the job, they aren't long enough.

I am off the to US this month and can buy from there, or I can source locally.

I want something very good quality, but the big issue I have with my ones are length and circumference.

I want to get a good selection of Philips, Flat Head and other common household tips.

These will primarily be used in a ratchet style screw driver. I want them to be able to magnetise and have a good quality 'grip' so I don't strip screws.

Any recommendations?

This guy does very comprehensive reviews and I suspect most of the sets he has reviewed are available on Amazon

I bought the Linus Tech Tips one, got delivered in December.

It’s an amazing screwdriver and the bits are very nice.

Project Farm rates it well in his recent review.

Didn't notice that :-) So that is two votes for him and since you are going to the US you can probably find them all

It better be good for $70USD (or 100,000 NZ Pesos!).

For that it should be doing the screwing for me.

And it's backordered till mid February. And looks less nice than the Xiaomi one which does the same thing and you can get from Amazon AU right now for about a third of the price.

If you get it from there at least you'll know you been properly screwed.

Do you mean the Xiaomi electric screwdriver?

That’s a very different tool which won’t last anywhere near as long as a good ratchet screwdriver

Edit: found the mijia one I guess you are talking about.

No, the Xiaomi ratchet screwdriver, with storage for bits in the handle.

Just noticed you can get it directly in NZ too, not just Amazon AU.

I have been using one of these ratcheting handles for many years at work. I use it with 1/4 drive sockets up to 1/2" and 13mm. The handle shape really fits into your hand to exert heaps of torque.

It has taken lots of abuse and has never faulted.

I have the Xiaomi ratchet screwdriver too. The LTT one is in another class - although I do prefer the pop up storage compartment on the Xiaomi. The Xiaomi isn’t terrible by the way.

I agree the LTT is a bit pricey. Like many others I had buyers remorse until I received it. I really am 💯 happy with it.

Edit - pb tech have the Xiaomi and it’s often on sale. I think I got it for $30.

Yeah, I got the Xiaomi to keep in a drawer in the kitchen for when I need a convenient all-in-one, for any serious work I'll use a fixed screwdriver consisting of a solid block of steel through to the handle.

+2 Xiaomi ratchet screwdrivers. The only unfortunate thing is that the bit extension can't also be stowed in the handle.

Was here on sale before Christmas for €16 and I bought 25 of them as a Christmas present. Some customers were so happy that, in addition to socks at home, they unexpectedly received tools from Santa. 😅

Im going to put this out there. Treat these as disposable. Just buy a set with a case and once you wear/lose a few of them out just buy a new kit. Also Impact rated bits last a lot longer.

I've had good service out of Bosch, Irwin, Makita and Dewalt bits.  Irwin are my favourite.

Whenever I go to mainland US, I buy up consumables (sandpaper, bits, tapes etc) and a few manual tools as well.
