pih:

Bought one of these on special for nearly half price on Black Friday:

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/HOMSAM0060/Samsung-Jet-60-Fit-Cordless-Stick-Vacuum-150AW-Pow

It seems to go on special quite a bit based on Pricespy, and tbh I wouldn't pay full price for it, but it's probably worth it if you can get it for under $300. Overall I'm pretty happy with it, but as someone else has commented the capacity is small and battery life on many stick vacuums is pretty short. This claims 40 minutes on low, which almost sucks up nothing at all. Regular gives you something like 12 minutes runtime, high gives you about 5.

This one is currently on sale until midnight tonight

Use code "RABBIT"

the other Samsungs also on sale until then

Thanks everyone for the comments. I think it's confirmed what I really knew anyway, which is it's better to buy once and cry once. Think we'd be disappointed with any other stick vacuum after having used a Dyson.

Stick vacs are great for little jobs where you don't want to drag a proper vacuum cleaner out and faff around with the power cable and hose. Someone's left pie crumbs on the carpet - whack it with the stick vac - brilliant. Vacuuming the lounge carpet? Forget about it.

I'm currently looking at Ryobi, but not as the main vacuum (just an additional one for tidy ups). 6 year warranty and easy to replace battery.

The latest versions (there is more than one) seems good based on reviews.

My experience s a bit different. The Shark I linked to can capably do my living room, dining room and all the hallways on one charge and does as good a job as my Dyson mains powered ball vacuum cleaner.

And the Shark beats that Dyson hands down for doing the stairs in terms of convenience.

I agree, our Dyson V10 is as good or better than our corded vacuum cleaner. We can also vacuum our entire 4 bed house on a single charge and because we don't have to mess around with a cord it takes about 25% less time. We still have a corded vacuum which I only use for the car but our stick vacuum is our primary cleaner and we will never go back to corded vacuum as the main cleaner.
