We've had 2 Bosch and based on our experience my sister set out to buy one but ended up with a Miele G5210. It appears to be more flexible dealing with slightly larger things than our Bosch. As usual shops here add several $100 more than Aus.

Bosch/Siemens is the VW and Miele the Mercedes. ;-)

Closing the loop - I landed on the Series 6. Installed it Saturday evening (with a little bit of swearing when I realised the water hose has an extra-large waterlock that wouldn't fit through the existing hose, so had to cut a larger hole in both the side of the cabinetry and the shelf inside the cabinet to reach the water connection). My observations - it's very quiet (much quieter than the last Bosch dishwasher I owned). The touch controls take a bit of getting used to. They're not especially sensitive, so you have to hold your finger for about a second for the touch to register (probably to avoid accidental button pushes) but it means you end up being very deliberate about your movements. It did a very good job of cleaning the dishes, and I threw it some pretty tough stuff for its first challenge.

Thanks for the feedback. I wish more people would close the thread, rather than us guessing the outcome.

Another "maybe not helpful" comment; our Series 8 has been awesome and would replace with the same model no questions.

A cutlery drawer is a game changer, if your budget can stretch to it. $500 over 10 year+ lifespan, is $50/year...

I would carefully check the specs between models and stores, as when we bought ours a "Series 8" from one store was not always the same as a "Series 8" from another store (presumably so you couldn't price match).

We have a range of Bosch stuff (series 4,6,8) and its all good, so get what you need and fits your budget. The Series 8 dries amazingly and is super super quiet, and has no buttons on the front. All of which were important to us, and we got a deal on an in stock version when we needed it.

Another fairly useless anecdote that I really like our Series 6.

The full-size cutlery drawer is very useful, I'd say. Being able to remove the cutlery basket basically gives you an extra 20% space on the bottom level, and along with cutlery we put lots of plastic up there - little Sistema lids, measuring spoons and cups, small plastic bowls etc. It'd definitely be a worse experience without it.

Did your series 6 come with the top cutlery drawer? The ones we have seen don't seem to have this, only the series 8 model. Could I get the model number?

The one that I ended up buying was this model here - Bosch 15 Place Setting Freestanding 60cm Dishwasher - Silver (Series 6/SMS6HCI01A) | Harvey Norman New Zealand

It came with the cutlery drawer. It's taken a bit of getting used to compared the cutlery basket (which also comes with the dishwasher), but I think it works well. My only niggle is that some of my large spoons, spatulas, etc don't lie flat enough to close the drawer properly, so they end up going in the middle rack as normal. I've been very impressed with how quiet it is though. Standing right next to it, I barely hear it - just the gentle whoosh of water across the metal mixing bowls in the lower rack. Makes a big change from the racket my last dishwasher used to make.

Mine is the semi-integrated version of this.

Agree it's very quiet - a great feature as we have an open plan kitchen and dining room. We actually quite often open it by mistake while it's running because it's so difficult to hear, and with the semi-integrated model the only clue that it's on is a small red light on the floor.

Great, thanks. I can only assume the floor model had removed it for some reason. That's back on our list of ones to consider then.
