If the lock is not already off by now ANY power tool could be risky. A true Kiwi Bloke should be able to quickly pull anything to pieces, whether it ever goes back together is another thing 😁

Thanks to the feedback, especially noting Crysoganus comments on the same type of lock, I was happy to remove the other cap - this one took a lot more force (stupid system). Then I managed to remove the other cap that was loose at the bottom of the screw hole by using a bit of duct tape wrapped around a chopstick and a pair of plyers - eat that McGyver! So luckily no need to drill out, which I would have done if no luck on removing it. As suspected, completely flat sided:
And, yep, there are indeed hex screws beneath, so it will indeed be easy to remove the lock; finger’s crossed the new smart lock goes in as smoothly as it did in the back door.
