its just acetone which you probably have at home already. it helps clean the plastic as well so you don't get failed joins.

Isn't it a cocktail of other carcinogens as well, and it's meant to pre-soften the plastic so the PVC cement forms a better bond? The description I got was that you apply the primer first and then follow up with PVC cement within a minute or two before the plastic re-hardens.

Again, E&OE because it was a while back.

remind me to look it up first.

its about 40% acetone and 40% Methyl ethyl ketone, plus others. no idea if the others are intentional or just byproduct of chem manufacturing. the ketone also cleans but is also a plastic solvent. its plastics model glue. no idea if it actually acts as a solvent with upvc or is simply a cleaner.

to add, one of the sds lists, Acetone 20-40% Methyl ethyl ketone 20-40% Tetrahydrofuran 15-35% Cyclohexanone 10-30%. which suggests its not made by individual components, but rather a mix taken part way during refining/production. this means the components are not critical and it makes it a lot cheaper to produce.
