boosacnoodle: Fairly sure last I checked it was either the CGA or the FTA that covered consequential losses. I’ve had NL cover those costs before for an appliance that required removal and installation under CGA.

It's not a consequential loss, it's a direct loss.

A direct loss is the unit and wiring. A consequential loss would be the pipe that burst as the room got too cold when the heater didn't work (as a bad hypothetical example).

Reading the press this morning this issue seems to be heating up

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Are you sure it's not all just hot air?

Stu1: I have the 2088w hopefully ok, they have closed completely in NZ, good luck getting refunds . I guess the retailers will lose out under the CGA

I'm in the same boat, I have 2x S2088 units.

We have one of the recalled heaters installed - I purchased it from Bunnings Lyall bay and installed it. I found a scanned copy of the receipt - May 2021 - and have emailed Bunnings support to ask what the next step is.

I'll post here if I hear anything back. Thanks to the OP for starting this - I saw the article on Stuff, but didn't bother checking until I saw it on GZ.

Hi @MadEngineer - yes it’s the 2068, luckily we haven’t really used it very much since installation.

We have two of them installed by kevler homes when we built. Luckily we are still under warranty so just lodged the claim now they emailed us to get the things replaced. Can't say I've been a fan of them, one of ours in particular arcs fairly frequently but we rarely use the thing in that bathroom to have really gotten around to seeing if it was an issue and reporting it.

I have this site bookmarked to check for recalls.

Recalled products – Product Safety New Zealand

The S2068 recall notice appeared on 24 March.

I phoned Worksafe about it on Friday to try and get a clear answer if the 2088 is affected or not, and to report that they had inserted inserted a photo of the 2088 model on their website. I had previously emailed them on Wednesday but had had no response. After 20 minutes on hold the guy I spoke to seemed confused about it all and he didn't appear to be aware of anyone reporting this problem. He could see the issue but didn't know the answer or what to do, but they said they would send it to Energy Safety to find out. He didn't think it included the 2088 model even though it was in the image, as the model number isn't quoted in the text. So it could just be an error, but you would think they would want to fix errors as soon as they were reported. I was not able to get to speak to someone in Energy Safety  who had issued the notice. They said that even though it is under Worksafe, Energy Safety was a totally different department and there is no way to directly phone the people in charge to get a quick answer. I have three of the 2088 model so it wouldn't be a cheap exercise to get switched with a  replacement if it is also found to be non compliant.  But they said I should get a reply sometime next week...

Is that under the 10 year implied warranty under the NZ Building Act and also under the CGA? Or did you also have a third party warranty?

Kevler had a 3 year warranty on the full house, so anything goes wrong we lodge a claim. It's not come up if it's a CGA or anything they have just done it. After 3 years we still have the master build guarantee on the structure.

We've claimed for things like the nozel on our kitchen tap not working properly, chipped paving and a word thing with some bi-fold doors. They actually emailed everyone who has the heater installed unprompted when the first notice was issued to say they'd replace them then emailed again on Friday for the full recall.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/350248319/worksafe-widens-ban-serene-heaters-linked-fires

The ban now applies to Serene S207T heaters imported, sold, or installed since January 2018, and S2069 models imported, sold, or installed since June 2018.
