Thanks for all the ideas, will have a more detailed look again over the weekend. I've messaged the power company overnight as well to see what they say.

Goosey:

Know anyone who can 3D print either new doors or an extension?

That looks like an awfully large and not-easily-3D-printable surface...

Agree on the 3d print.

I was hoping for an aliexpress style addon than clicks into the existing door holes with more holes for the door to plug into.

The 'remove the facia' is the next one, but a bit of a risk of metal blades by the house main supply!

With a bit of bending, you should be able to pop the door out of its frame. Don't try to cut it in place...

I'm not sure how easy those doors are to get hold of, though. I wouldn't recommend cutting it.

Took the cover bit off this morning. I'm thinking I'll just get some 20mm wide and deep timber, paint it up and attach it to the wall to bring the front cover forward a bit to enable the door to close properly.

You can buy a replacement front cover and doors set separately.

And final update.

Purchased some 18mmx18mm timber, spent the day cutting, painting and attaching to the wall.

So job is now all done, door closes properly, WAF is resolved. about $14 of timber and a few screws to attach.

Thanks as always to those who provided input.
