Darkhawk:

Thanks to all your suggestions above. There's some good ideas, though I just want to focus on what position to place the extra fan at this stage. I prefer to keep the natural light coming in from the clear panels but I might install solar on the dominant side at a later date which would help to buffer the roof from the direct rays.

Looks like setting them both to extracting is the best solution, but should I mount them side by side instead of op ends? Wondering if that would be more efficient with them both pulling in same direction instead of competing against each other.....or doesn't that matter, we are talking about 1300 cubic m of workshop space, plenty of air for them to fight over.

as mentioned before, i would put them in opposite ends and have one blowing in and one blowing out.

its not really about volume of air space but rather the holes in the walls/doors to let air in for the air flow the fan does. i would have to go do the calcs but wild gestimation the size hole you need is like the size of car. passive inlets need to be huge, really huge.

I've got similar sorts of issues. Any views on the assorted types of roof mounted vents, e.g.

And how much wind do you get in your area?

Also the photos of that particular model don't inspire confidence about its longevity, especially if you're anywhere near the coast.

Both 😁! But my immediate issue is a double garage similar to the OP. Really just need an initial steer as to where to start.

sheds, all depends on how hot and how much air flow you need. you might get away with just vents, all depends on your shed.

houses are a lot trickery and its a hugely debated topic. ceilings and moisture throws a huge curveball into the mix.

If you want to go the DIY route and have enough breeze past your place you could also look at a windcatcher.

I run one of these on the highest section of my house roof. I sprayed mine cold galv black so it wasn't so shiny. The base is rotatable to match the pitch of your roof. Seems to make a difference.

The best thing i did was put solar panels on mine. Went from Mid to High 40's to maybe hitting 30. Bonus is the power generated., negative is the cost.

neb: Just providing some more data for a typically hot sunny day, air temperature 25 degrees, roof metal temperature 47 degrees, attic air temperature 32 degrees.  So there's a 15 degree temperature difference created by the building paper and thin layer of air above it, and that's with a decent breeze hitting the roof metal to provide at least some cooling, I don't have any data yet for a wind-free scorcher of a day.

I've now got readings for the "scorcher of a day", roof metal temperature is 55 degrees, attic temperature is 38 degrees, so it's still pretty close to a 15 degree drop just from building paper and an air pocket.

You could actually sous vide cook meat on the roof at the moment.
