A couple of years ago Briggs & Stratton went chapter 11 bankrupt and were bought out for $550m leaving $900m debt behind. Their newer engines are not necessarily the same as they used to be. I wouldn’t buy a new one just because I've got 2 30 year old ones that still run.

I've had a Stihl battery mower for 7 years. Great mower.

We have a Masport President with a Honda engine. It's about 15 years old, lives in the garden shed, gets an oil change about once every 10 years. Starts first pull. Original catcher. It just keeps on going.

Here's the current model. https://www.stihlshop.co.nz/masport-presidentr-4000-al-s19-combo.html?srsltid=AfmBOoodd1sVYrOUfHTnYkGaeujg0rFaaR8_LrvvWY3DD3q5gc54zLke

I'd happily buy another Masport however I'll probably look at a battery Milwaukee if/when it ever needs replacing since I have other Milwaukee gear along with the associated batteries and chargers.

As much as I would love a trusty Masport, I think that the newer ones just aren't the same anymore (I've heard).

I think we would like to buy a new one.

Where did you hear that? The one I linked above looks pretty well exactly the same as one we have with the exception of the motor cover.

Here's the warranty details on that one.

3 Year Mower Engine/Motor Warranty

10 Year Mower Chassis Warranty

5 Year Mower Parts Warranty

Lifetime Mower Catcher Warranty

No, I don't work for Masport nor associated in anyway with the marketing or sales of their mowers.

Hi team,

I'm looking for a lawn push mower, for a grass patch roughly 50-100sqm, some of it is fairly flat.

Can someone please recommend a good mower that won't break apart after a few years?

Open to petrol or electric but it needs to be cordless.

Can i ask what mower you ended up getting please?

Ryobi 36V. Been working well so far! Might need to get it out tomorrow.

Masport MSV that I inherited when the parents downsized. Has the turning circle of an old Holden, bigger 4-stroke Briggs engine, chugs away happily and doesn't burn oil. It's prob 12-15yo. Good enough for my little urban meadow. Always starts 2nd pull.

I'm on my second Ozito battery mower and about to take the second back. Same issue as the first where the power just dies as I'm mowing, happens multiple times.

What's the grass height? I have a Makita 2 x 18v mower and it is great so long as you mow the lawn regularly. It's a rubbish mix of grasses and some parts grow faster than others. That's when the usual height setting works most of the time but the longer grass trips the current sensor. The petrol mower also bogs down but keeps going.

Lately I've had the mower on level 3 to just take the top off, so not thick at all.

Honestly I'd consider a corded electric one.
They are more powerful than battery mowers - though some are quite good.
My grandfather had one and found that it was super easy to manage if he started at the electric source end and pulled the cable out as he mowed.
