k1w1k1d:

Not sure sitting the drier on a 16mm mdf shelf with just edge supports would be strong enough in the long term.

It does look sketchy, glad it's not my laundry. I would make sure the joinery business installs a much beefier shelf for the drier. I won't do it if they have concerns & will just go back to the drawing board.

Cheers.

Because you posted that lower photo, it was natural for others to assume that’s what you were now intending to do.

Wouldn't you be better off talking to a plumber rather than a joiner??

Apologies for any confusion. The intention behind the photo was to show how the drier can be stacked into the cabinetry for stability allowing my stacking kit to be removed & that was all.

I am glad k1w1k1d pointed out the drier shelf in the image though. When I sent the designer that photo I did reiterate that the particular shelf appears to be not fit for purpose.

Not at this stage of the process I would say. Once the design is final I will show them the sketch & get some quotes. The current location of the washing machine & under sink plumbing is almost identical to the new design so it would just be a case of the plumber transplanting it over for the most part I'd say.

My situation isn't exactly the same as yours, but I have upside down carpet squares under the rear feet of my washing machine. When I need to get it out, I add more squares under the front feet and it slides fine. It is a bit less rigid than all four feet on something solid (I very ocassionally have to straighten it up), but seems to be an okay compromise.

I made up a ply sheet with the same footprint as the washing machine and cut a piece of carpet tile to size and glued it on the underside of the ply which is permanently placed under the washing macine.

The machine slides easily into the cavity on the ply/carpet tile base. To get it out I put a trailer tie down strop hook around each front leg and pull it out with the strops.

Easy.

They do new Kitchens as well. If they make the cavity for a dishwasher why would they not do the same thing for a washing machine & drier?
