Nety: I recently re-purposed the top of our hallway cupboard for this. The top part is separate sealed from the lower part and with its own doors so was ideal. I have an home server up there too which is a full desktop as well as all the networking kit a micro PC running Astaro and UPS so was not willing to just leave it to convection to cool I purchased a couple of large silent PC fans (well quiet they are not silent) and have them running from an adapter. These are mounted on the underside of the shelf so pull air from the lower cupboard and pressurise the upper part where all the kit sits. I also cut down the doors so there is a approx 1cm gap at both the bottom and top of the doors to let the warm air out. You can hear the fans at night when you are standing in the hallway but cannot hear it from any of the bedrooms. Would have liked the fans to be a bit quieter but it is not like you spend your time standing around in the hallway.
