GenieSmartLock: Hi Guys,

Looks like I'm a bit late to the party on this one but I thought I'd chime in.

We are an Australian company bringing the latest smart lock to the market. What makes the Genie Smart Lock unique? It is a full door handle and not a deadbolt. Being an Australian company, Australia and New Zealand are also two of our focus markets.

No pictures on your web page?
I'm not about to drop $250 - $300 on something I can't see.
And this about page? LMAO...

GenieSmartLock:
Regarding the "tech" aspect on display. This is a feature that a lot of our customers have asked for and love. I understand the security concerns that have been raised, however I think a $200 - $300 door handle is the least of your worries in this regard. I think the flashy car and house can be more of a giveaway than a smart lock, however I understand the concerns.

Some customers might want their tech on display, but I'm not out to impress anyone. I just want to unlock my door with the minimum of fuss.
I wouldn't call a 21 year old BMW "flashy" and the house looks pretty much like all the other ones in the street. :D

There's also no way in the world I'm paying anyone for "e-keys". ever.

Oh don't worry, the product and site are in the pre-launch phase at the moment. Not intending to take orders at this stage, rather just engage with the community of those interested in the product so that we can build the product that you guys want! I thought it would be great to give you guys an idea of pricing so that we can get your feedback as well.

The paying for e-keys is an interesting thing and I appreciate the feedback. The more we hear stuff like this, the more we can make the product as close to what you want and not what we think you want.

The final product design should be complete in the next two weeks and then we will be launching properly shortly after that. You can leave your email on the pre-launch page (www.geneismartlock.com) if you want to be kept up to date and see the final product design as soon as it is available.

I have design sketches and preliminary renderings at the moment but I don't think I'll release those just yet!

It is our intention at this stage to have open API, however this will be confirmed in due course.

I'd love to hear any further feedback you guys have.

From their FB page: "Stage 1 of the design is complete. Renderings will be available in the next 2 - 3 weeks!"

I wouldn't be holding my breath.

Cheers, I edited my post after I looked at their Facebook page aswell :)

Sidenote:  We are getting a client who travels between the States and NZ regularly (they also have a home in the US) to purchase us an August lock and bring it back with them.  Let us know if you want to jump aboard, PM me if you do.  I saw the unit on Remotecentral a few months ago and had a backorder placed with them for when they ship overseas....can't wait that long so asked a good client if they wouldn't mind bringing a couple back.

And just as I type that, I get an email saying manufacturing has been delayed.. lol.
At least they don't charge my CC until it ships.
Oh well... waiting never killed anyone. (drives me insane, but what can I do?)

At least we know it exists! :D

I can't believe the amount of people jumping on the bandwagon recently, and why aren't they already out? I actually looked at couple of other ones, and the only other one that doesn't stand out like dogs balls is the Kevo, but it only supports iphone due to there being no androids that support BT4 (even tho 4.3 and all the flagships do now). So if they're that slack, they can't have my money! And the "paying for e-keys" thing.

Did you have a look at the Lokitron?  Cheaper than most of the other ones, but not sure if they are shipping yet.  Had some cool notification alerts, even one that would send an alert if someone knocked on your door due to it having a built in knock sensor.  You could also text to open the Lockitron via an old school phone.

Yup, but requires a new lock, which makes it more expensive than the August and it's nowhere near as good looking on the door ;p
