Niel: Jones Family Investments owns Applico and Kitchen Things.

(Sic) most Kitchen Things outlets. The more moving parts in an appliance, the less likely I am to recommend Smeg. I wonder what the CGA would say is an appropriate (trouble free) life for the various appliances.

Vote for Bosch.  Been through 2 F&P top line washers, both failed to impress.  Went for a top line (was $2.4K but down to $1.6K at HN) bosch this time around, had it just over a year now and it hasn't missed a beat.  Actually cleans the dishes and is very quiet.  Wash cycle takes a bit longer but heaps of options to adjust times and different wash cycles.  Will never go back to F&P now.

A Bosch one with Zeolith technology would be cool, not available in NZ though.

Not sure why Australia gets it and not us.

trying to see if we can get a refund from Kitchen Things for our Smeg (we havent picked it up yet from them, bought just about a month ago). Any Bosch in the 1.5k range that someone would recommend?

Edit: fixed typo

Went in this weekend looking for Dishwashers and try to return my Smeg - full story here. I found the best deal to be a Bosch built under model from Harvey Norman or if you want a free standing one. They both are made in Germany - some of the lower Bosch models are made in Turkey - better keep an eye out for these ones.

Hope that helps your hunt!

Our 12 year old Westinghouse dishwasher no longer dries dishes and the dispenser often doesn't work so time to look at a replacement. Now wondering how your 2014 recommendations stack up in 2016. Its already had a few trips away for repairs so figure its not worth another.

Looking at a replacement I'm after something that is Quíet, washes (without loads of rinsing) and dries plastics. Needs to be the Stainless Steel option for kitchen aesthetics. And reliable! Washing pots would be handy - though I find the dishwasher is full of other stuff by the end of the day that these get washed by hand anyway. ( we use dishwasher once at night)

I'm probably a bit anti F&P. Bought a clothes washer (to try to keep it NZ) but it doesnt wash well at all. Recently got a 2 drawer dishwasher at work and the top drawer only lasted a couple of weeks before it had to be repaired.

raytaylor: Not exactly sure what the current model looks like, but no one ever got fired for buying fisher & paykel

edit: and I think its still half kiwi owned.

That's what I thought when I got all my appliances, and I regret it.

Me too. I used to buy F&P religiously, but their recent products have been a major disappointment (except fridge). We have a F&P dishwasher and a Bosch. the Bosch runs rings around the F&P in every respect.

My Bosch is still going strong. Drying plastics is a weak point - sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. I suspect some wash cycles do better than others.

Plastic doesn't get as hot as metal - hence it seldom dries well, no matter your dishwasher.

Two years on and more problems with our Smeg oven. Out of warranty period but I am confident of making a CGA claim if necessary because it is faulty design/quality control at the root of the failure and these sort of appliances should last 5-10 years minimum. I will NEVER buy another Smeg appliance.

Depending on your price range, our Miele dishwasher has operated faultlessly and silently for those same 2+ years.

I have a bosch dishwasher and it is ok, but not the best dishwasher I have had. The grey coating on the racks inside are breaking down and the welding on some spikes welding have failed and come off. Also had a problem with the soap dispenser door not closing , although that looks to be a common problem. I am going for meile next time as they seem to have the best reviews these days.
