gehenna:

For those using it for controlling security camera/webcams and recording images can you link to the software/hardware you're using and how you set things up?  Seems a great application for the Pi and I have a B+ just sitting around waiting for me to repurpose it!

I use Motion , http://www.lavrsen.dk/foswiki/bin/view/Motion/WebHome

Very easy to setup and use. You control it via command line so nice and easy to ssh into your pi to play around with it.

There is a you tube video that takes you through it although I have never watched it.

I looked into using the pi for camera stuff, but by the time you mess about with brackets and powering it and sorting out software etc, may as well just buy an IP cam off aliexpress that is ready to go.

Running one for uploading my weather station data to Weather underground and NZ Met Service (http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboard?ID=IWELLING227),  and the other was used as a random timer for firing a gas gun to scare birds.
Not really utilising the PI's full potential, but certainly does the job.

Put it in a box. Specifically an ice cream container.

I used it to get experience with linux, unintentionally.

EDIT: I also built a lego case for it. Not that great, but it had wheels, and had spaces to plug in peripherals.
