Thanks re. Uncontrolled, so it looks like the pricing is taken into account on the website which gives me a lower rate 16 kw/h overall. Interestingly the powerswitch website puts these guys right down my list of recommendations, and the pricing is different to what is offered on EK actual website.
I just did the Powerswitch website calculation again for my address (Tauranga region) & Electric Kiwi comes out as the best option with Mercury second & Flick third.
We were previously with Grey Power ( through Pulse Energy) at a very competative rate but EK has saved us money every month plus their website gives you 1/2 hourly review of your power comsumption so you can optimise your power savings with the free off peak hour.
Hey guys please refrain from spamming EK referral links - if you're thinking of signing up then just PM one of the guys on this thread (including myself) for a link.

Or loosly translated "Please refrain from promoting youself .... but here's MY plug for a referral as well" haha. Isn't that a bit like do a I say not do as I do ?
I say this in a light hearted & caring sort of way....
Or you could just get the referral link by messaging the OP, I reckon that would be fair ;)
mattrix:
They set your hour for the day at midnight of that day.
So, you can set it anytime during the day (and even after the hour has been).
I have a 24/7 electricity consumption monitoring using a Currentcost device. I can run a script to select the hour with the highest consumption (outside the excluded time range) and set this as my free hour of the day. All running automatically in the background for me.
This is awesome...but I'm still locked in my current provider for a year.
@clive100 hey now while I'm not a EK customer (yet) people are welcome to pick who to PM - it was intended to be light hearted :) it just saves the constant link spamming. Plenty of people here to pick from now. If anyone is thinking of joining EK or wants a referral link they're welcome to post here or send a PM is all I am saying. Saves on notification emails sent out to the people watching this thread and also keeps it fair. First in, first served.

Compared our bill here in Christchurch, it seems our contact freedom plan actually isn't bad considering we can get $15 worth of fuel from it too. (Which is more than the estimated EK savings)
It would how ever depend on how we make use of that free hour, and referral credit, to see some real savings.
Also, the $200 guarantee mentioned above, is no longer on. That was for customers who signed up last year. Now it's just a guarantee to save something, even if it's a dollar.
Mines already gone through (signed up today), got the confirmation email and the notice about the $50 credit. A guess maybe it depends on how quickly you current company releases you?? I am a bit gutted for Paua to the people as they have been great for the 6 months I have been with them, just not happy to switch from their 'simple as' (quarterly pricing) to 'cheap as' (spot pricing) when running an office from home. Feel there will be a few others that are thinking the same way.
Yep it's mostly down to the other power company.
I signed up to EK last Friday, gave them payment details Saturday. They told me Flick had told them they'd have me moved over "on or before the 20th June", but I'm still waiting. Not unexpected, and still within the ten day limit.

Same for me. I also got the "20th June" email, however I queried this with EK yesterday and they said it was an error and those dates should not have been in the email.
I queried it as well, they told me it was a target date that is rarely met.
When I swapped over last year it took the full 10 days. Sound like it doesn't matter who the company is that you are moving from. They all drag it out so they get every dollar from you.

I signed up last weekend. The application confirmation came through Monday and by Wednesday I got an email to tell me I was connected. I was previously with Nova.
