Had been going down the warehouse hooded s/s cheapie route and found they cooked well and would last a few years before the burners and heat deflecters rusted out. Which was fine - get a few years BBQ for a few hundred bucks. Then put it on the kerb and it disappears in a day.

Last summer bought a "goldair" cheapie from Briscoes. What a piece of cr*p. Will throw it shortly. The fat tray doesn't work and can't be slid out. Relies on a catch can in the corner but the fall isn't right and it the fat leaks out the opposite corner.

Have used WeberQ in the past. People seem to love them apart from me. Didn't like it and found the heat to be very uneven.

So I am back to square one.

BTW The best BBQ I've ever had was a Weber charcoal kettle, combined with the moveable briquette baskets and a chimney starter.

But they require management to get the job done and I'm now too lazy. Prefer to just indirect cook in a conventional hood using two digital thermometers - one for the meat and one for the BBQ temperature.

Gas BBQing isn't BBQing at all.

Well, it isn't. It's just cooking on an outdoor stove.

The Mrs suggested I research the Goldairs but I haven't seen too many positive comments around them.

Does the Weber Q3200 have a rotisserie option?

Yes, but it's a $299 upgrade.

Yep. We use our current BBQs for rotisseries all the time, so we did pony up the cash for that, despite the exorbitant cost.

My replacement Weber Q is only 10 months old and the paint finish on the lid has started to blister and peel off. I have searched the web and cannot find any other examples of this, and my old Weber Q2200 did not suffer from any quality issues, so I assume this is a one-off problem. I've just lodged a warranty repair with the stockist, so will update this thread on how smoothly (or otherwise) the claim process goes with Weber.

Weber just got in touch, replacement lid to be sent under warranty.

The main reason I have not bought a Weber. No realistic rotisserie option.

Plus I do use a side burner occasionally, something else a Weber can't do.
