21" good for larger lawns, possibly a pain for smaller lawns, but comes with two batteries.

I agree , the built-in battery and charger is a pain if something had to go wrong

the Victa does seems smarter having 2 x 2ah batteries (instead of 1 x 4ah of the masport)

It says steel chassis vs. Masport alloy chassis

The grass area isn't great between (around 150m2)

But I do tend to let the grass grow long as it's on the council parts on two sides of a corner section

So in the hope one charge of the 4ah battery would be sufficient

My Ryobi is still going strong and I really like it but I think I'd buy the AEG now.

When comparing all these different voltage mowers you should convert to watt hours by multiplying the amp hour ratings by the voltage to get an Idea of Run time. Voltage does help but watt hours gives you a measure of how much work the battery can do. Brushless motors give more torque so are worth having also and will be better than the equivalent non brushless.

This is not perfect but it's the best rough comparison we can easily do.

So for Example (total of both batteries)

Ryobi 2 x 36V 4A/H batteries = 288 Watt hours (what I have - manages an 800 sq/m section on 1.5 charges if mowed weekly so I have .5 batt charge left) (edited for correct batt capacity)

AEG 2 x 58V 4A/H = 464 watt hours

Victa 2 x 82V 2A/H = 328 Watt hours

Masport 1 x 58V 4A/H = 232 watt hours

Masport 82V 4A/H = 328 watt hours

Ego 56V 7.5 A/H = 420 watt hours

The AEG looks like the best combination of price/ features / run time - I have no Idea about relative quality though. The Masport 82V and Ego 56V will have the longest run time on a single battery, but once it's flat you have to wait for it to recharge unlike the dual battery kits.

AEG powertools are built by the same company as Ryobi and are a step up in the hierarchy (apparently, my ryobi gear is all excellent).

They also own Milwaukee, Hoover, Vax, and Homelite amongst others.

I have quite an investment in Black & Decker cordless tools including edge trimmer, hedge trimmer and blower vac. I'm wondering if they also do electric mowers as my 21 year old petrol motor is getting pretty sick and I want to stick with the common battery thing

I bought an EGO from Miter 10 for $799 a couple of months ago . So far no problems and it does the whole lawn with battery to spare. Takes less that an hour to recharge. No grass clogging issues but it has been summer.

Also battery powered so not off topic at all! Great idea if your lawn has a mowing strip, but still much easier to just trim the edges than mow the whole lawn!

Wondering if deWalt have a battery mower yet. They already have 54V "flex" batteries so it must be on the way... Would be keen to utilise the fancy batteries for work tools if it happened too.

EDIT:

A quick search shows a dual 20Vmax (so nominal 18V here) being launched soon in USA, and 40V model on the way. No doubt there will eventually be other models for the 60V batteries, and I would hope options to run the dual mower off a single higher voltage battery.

Time to find a new industry!

I have the Victa 82V 18" mower and line trimmer. Both work well, the batteries take 30 minutes to charge and last about 30 minutes if not longer. So you can basically run continuously. The 18" mower has a brushless 1500w motor and swing back blades. It ramps up power if you go through heavier patches of grass, the same as the others cordless mowers I assume. The deck is rather thin and has a bit of flex though, the 21" deck is a lot more sturdier.

You can get the 21" mower and Line Trimmer Kit for quite a discount if you use the price match at Bunnings.

21" mower $998 at Bunnings. Could use the price from lynfield mowers (http://www.lynfieldmowersallpower.co.nz/other_mowers.htm) to get it for $764.15 (I haven't tried this though). This comes with 2x 2Ah batteries, seems like a very good deal.

18" mower $599 at Bunnings. I couldn't find any other sites to get a price match. I think this is a Bunnings specific model, requested specifically by bunnings from Victa/Brigs & Stratton.

Line Trimmer Kit $629 at Bunnings. Use Hauraki Mowers (https://www.haurakimowers.co.nz/collections/battery-powered/products/82v-line-trimmer-kit) price to get it for $322.15 (almost half price). Hauraki mowers must have priced the line trimmer kit at the line trimmer skin only price by mistake. The shop clerks couldn't believe it was so cheap, managed to get them to price match/beat anyway . You can also use the Ryobi Expand-it attachments on this line trimmer.

i ended up purchasing the Masport 82v 4amp mower today

The battery took about an 1 hour and a bit to charge fully

I have used the mower today but only on a small patch over over grown grass/ over grown weeds

I like the effortless instant start compare to most petrol mowers

Dislike the auto sensing power (i.e. if you get to a patch of grass that is long it sensors more power is needed and the motor rev's harder but by then you have past that spot of grass and need to go over that spot again)

Missing the smell and noise of the petrol mower and the sound of petrol POWER!!!

Masport 2000 - $950 (82v 4amp - inc separate charger and battery)
