So reading this thread with interest.

Our AEG has a steam function which the wife switches on for 30 mins after my shirts are done.

It comes out pretty nice, and I just need to hand them dry for some very nicely uncreased shirts.

What was the model and is it a front loader. I prefer a top loader.

Are Panasonic washers still being made in Taiwan?

I would be reluctant to get a Miele. I expect the quality is fine but I know from experience I don't want to deal with the after sales support if something goes wrong. If you must get a Miele product, buy from a New Zealand owned retailer. Miele sells through retailers on commission so buying directly from them or through an Australian retailer sends a small fortune out of the country needlessly.

People I know who bought Samsung whitewear soon replaced them with other brands after they died.

I am still mourning the demise of the Dyson washing machine with the contra-rotating drum. They also had a timer that was really sensible - you set the time you wanted the load to finish and it started accordingly!

Yep, I don't know if it actually makes a difference but I only buy shirts that are "no iron required" but whatever the reason, my iron is now only used for iron-on edge tape when I'm making melamine cabinets 😊

I have non-iron shirts but some still come out not quite wrinkle free

Measure how much cold water comes out of your hot tap before it runs hot. In some cases the washing machine doesn't use enough water to get much hot water unless you run an adjacent tap 1st.

I've got few complaints about the washing performance of our Bosch front-loader (about two years old), but have two wider issues:

* some of the buttons can be really unresponsive, requiring hard and multiple pushes to respond (especially annoying when trying to set the timer, which takes many pushes anyway!)

* removing items stuck in the filter can be a total dog (where the item is blocking the filter fitting being able to be unscrewed - we had a kid's sock stuck there, and for the non-mechanically inclined it was a real hassle, though thank god for YT videos of someone doing the same to a similar model)

Bosch do not have any machine with both i-DOS and Active Oxygen. Perhaps two weeks is too late to be of help but we have a 9kg WAW28790AU with Active Oxygen. I do not understand why Bosch buried their use of ozone (patents.google.com/patent/US20110185516) to kill bacteria at low temperatures behind the burble they use in their blurb here: www.bosch-home.co.nz/experience-bosch/active-oxygen. But we find it effective and it can be run independently of the washing cycle.

Not an answer to the OP but a tip for appliance research: next time you're at the tip, check out which brands feature most heavily in the white-ware collection area. At our local tip, Samsung is heavily represented. I would have expected it to the the most commonly sold brands (F&P etc), but no.
