A new brushless Dewalt/Makita/Milwaukee drill will drive augers etc. without even noticing. I haven't had my big old Hitachi power drill out for years.
Decided as we dont use these items often, to get the $40 Ozito Driver and when times comes the corded $45 Ozito Hammer drill somebody said they have had for years.
I have a $400 hammer drill in Aus that ive used on many Reno for profit houses and its still going after 18 years. I will have to find the brand but I suspect its a high end Ryobi, being they are cheap to start with.
I do like Black and Decker but like all brands they have made on friday afternoon models, so dont want to pay 2.5 times the price when we wont use it that often anyway.
The Mrs has a flat back ladder book shelf she couldnt tighten enough by hand, I presume the Ozito will be powerful enough just to get the screws done up tight?
Not bad, battery, charger, and a selection of bits too start.
WARNING: Ignore below, if story of why Im not sending my Aus gear over here is of no interest or my opinions on Aus and commuting and property markets.
I looked at hex drill bits and not worth going there at $13 a piece. Would rather get a minimum 13mm drill and if ever needed diamond head drill bits. I have considered having some of my gear sent over here from Aus, but then for the $40 postage Im going to have to send back soon in the near future anyway as once this virus dies off, I expect China to be wanting Iron ore again and NZ to drop 80c to the $1AU, or 90c, whatever, either way lots of work there and a LOT of houses to choose from in every city that are chanty shacks in an expensive suburb, unlke Auckland where it seems pickings are few and prices expected are close to a near new build, ie no profit left in NZ. I expect Welli and Dunedin which had their medians double in 3 years to soon have a correction much like Auckland did and possibly the flat line like Auckland has had soon, putting prices back to status quo in pro rata of city to city medians.
Long story short, no profits left in NZ as its over inflated by 40% as it is and as bloomberg stated is 2nd most likely country to have a major price correction, mind you they never said when, but given China is now our main economic partner not the US and Tourism from China is a huge chunk, this virus is the sort of thing that could spark this correction/crash many have been predicting for 6 years now. Not worried either way, got 15% off my studied MV for this place with a nice sea view at the bottom of the market and 40% below its GV/RV/CV. Owners were moving to the chiller (south island) and desperate. You can make monstrous money in a flat market via genuinely motivated vendors. I wouldnt buy in Auck 6 months later with prices now going up again (In expect for short period).
So will likely target Bris as its nearly half the median of Auck (and has way better infrastructure), or possibly north or south coasts from Sydney, which is a 60-90m train ride. Places like Newcastle have a lot of Villas and Bungalows ripe for the picking, it never really recovered from the Earthquake decades ago, but a lot of Elderly in pockets, so estate sales etc. Both coasts are stunning, hard to pick which is better, more similar to east coast northland nz with rocky headlands with white sandy coves. Unlike Qld which is just long straight white sand. What I do like about living in Bris outside value for money property, is its locality to Gladstone and southern end of the great barrier reef, outside amazing spearfishing, just the water clarity and photography of the abundant sea life is such a joy vs green merky 8m on a spectacular day Viz in NZ.
My dream retirement is to have a house in Gladstone for winter (as its not toooo hot like up near Cairns) and a house in Tutukaka for summer.
Surprising how many people commute to Aus for work during the week and back to NZ for the weekends, I suppose if you work and live in the city, you could write off the travel time on the weekends vs commuting during the week. Not much different from the Marlborough to Welli commuters I guess, + 1.5 hours.
Actually went with this Ryobi, mostly because its slightly more powerful and you can twist the handle so it become a vertical driver. Only thing I dont like is no clutch so when screws done up, it doesnt turn and make ratchet sound, it just turns in screws and slightly strips them if you not careful.
