If you get downlights installed (IC rated), make sure the electrician doesn't pull the wires across the batts when installing the fittings, which will bunch up and create gaps/holes in the insulation.  I came across this issue on a skill-ion roof, and unless you remove every down-lighter to check that there aren't any holes and then redistribute the batts, you could end up with  thermal holes in the ceiling insulation and heat loss.

Thanks :) Ah good point about the rubber seal at the bottom, and this is over carpet yes.

The attic trusses? To be honest I don't remember most of the technical details but something about the roof needing support in that area as it would be too much on one particular wall otherwise, and they could have had the supports go down lower on one side but then our garage door would be too low. Sorry I doubt those tiny tidbits of a reason make any sense though :o So our attic trusses went into a different area along with some floorboards there, but they're also putting in floorboards (for free) as we wanted them over the garage, just without the attic trusses there. It's a little disappointing because not too bad because to be honest we're limited what we can really put up there anyway by the size of the hatch. We were just not happy about how the change was made, without letting anyone know.

Good point about the downlights, yes we're getting those installed and they're meant to be the type that insulation can go right over. We'll be sure to check they don't pull the wires over the insulation.
