The difference between the Animal and non-Animal models - I think that's just an extra head? No pets, not really needed.

For us the Animal was just the inclusion of a couple of extra tools, but it was on special, so we jumped at it for $300 off.

I would have preferred the V11 Outsize, but couldn't justify the massive jump in cost for us, based on our needs.

Correct- in Dyson world the number is the different model and the type is the inclusions/colour scheme. Eg all V7s are the same, but the Motorhead one comes with different tools.

If the Motorhead version didn't have a picture of Lemmy on it, I'd be thinking false advertising.

Another vote for the V11 outsize.  Got the Mrs one for Xmas and really happy with it - been described as a game changer.  Battery (which is removable) lasts long enough to do our small 3 bedroom house a couple of times, and with a dog and cat it cleans up the fur really well.

Makes the vaccuuming about half the time and has a good size dust collection bin which is easy to empty.  Even though it's not cheap it has been well worth the money.

🎁 That's one of the reasons we are still together - my understanding of great presents!

Funnily enough the boys at work had a similar reaction when I told them what I had bought her prior to Xmas.  Some girls are just keepers mate! 😂

I'm another who would vote for the Dyson V11 Outsize.  Large head, large container, amazing pickup power - and we got ours on a deal with a spare battery thrown in.  Makes it easy to wait until battery is low, 10 seconds to swap it out, and you're away again.  Incredible job of picking up cat and dog hair.  If I sound like a fanboy, it's probably because I am :-)  Even my wife supports the (rather large!) capital investment!! Happy to see the back end of our traditional corded vacuum.

How much did you get yours for?

How does everyone find the weight of the Dyson V11 Outsize? We still have a v6, and after playing with the V11 Outsize in a store, found it was significantly heavier.

The new V15 detect has same power and suction numbers as the V11 outsize while keeping same weight as non outsize V11. I am waiting for V15 Detect to launch in NZ which should be imminent.

Yes, comparing the USA retail for v15 vs v11 there's very little difference. I'm now not too keen on overpaying for v11 or V10.

I've missed out on a couple of V10 specials at $799 at Extreme, Farmers. Those would have been good.

Curious if anyone knows the standard head size in mm for V10. Our current vac is 270-300mm. Smaller would actually work for us most of the time.

If we were to buy another Dyson, we would definitely go for the one with a bigger bin. Currently have a V10.

If should be noted that these are not buy it for life vacuums. Probably get a good 5-8 years out of them. Not sure what vacuums are BIFL nowadays.

Got it direct from Dyson for $1449 (it was actually the V11 Outsize Pro option, with some extra attachments) with a "free" extra battery and charger - which they "value" at $249!

On your other question, we find it no problem at all weight-wise. Obviously you are not carrying it around as the head spends most of the time on the ground.  Very easy all round and, as I think I said earlier, don't know why we didn't go for one earlier (although the price seems a bit off-putting until you actually try one)

We have the Miele HX1 Cat & Dog stick vac, and it's amazing compared to the Dyson V7.

Power head with LED lights, hepa filter, and you can transform the vac 3 ways - motor by head, motor by handle, and motor by itself (ie like hand hold dust buster).

Has carpet sensors too, so can tell when your on carpet and goes into turbo mode.

Has wall cradle charger, and detachable battery (like power drill battery).

The vacuum stands up by itself to when the motor is by the head.

Definitely recommend.

I believe the V10 head is around 260mm (although I don't have one!) - similar in size to the "hard floor" head on our V11 Outsize (250mm) - but smaller than the Outsize normal head at 320mm.  V10 may be fine for you, but just check your requirements in case the V11 actually offers something you want - e.g. at least 20% more suck; digital display of mode and battery life; swappable battery (button press like cordless drill); auto mode for detecting floor surface and adjusting suction; and, if you go for the Outsize, a 1.9 litre dust canister vs 0.79 litre for the others.  Just potential food for thought. :-)

It's definitely a chonker, but with the head on the floor it glides around easy enough - don't have any issues with it.

If you have any issues with your wrists or arms however, it would perhaps be too much.

billgates: Dyson V15 was announced last week and is now available for sale in US. If you are keen on the Dyson, might be worth waiting for the latest V15 to hit NZ.

I have had the Dyson V15 here for a couple of weeks now and posted my experience here Dyson V15 Detect Total Clean review (geekzone.co.nz)

The new High Torque head is amazing. There's no hair tangling (and my wife does a lot of wool felting craft here at home, big problem with the V11 Outsize). It's half kilo lighter than the V11 Outsize and it's stronger suction.

The laser is kind of novelty - it works well, showing where it's dirty (hard floors only) and the roller is washable. The laser is not very effective if it's a very bright area like direct sunlight.

Really amazing stuff though.
