Oblivian: I guess birds must think a bit diff down here then *shrug*
When it comes time to roost avoiding wind or weather they seem go find trees, sheltered eaves, empty knots, attics, Wood piles, old sheds, comms cabinets at the top of the warehouse
Quite a few hidey spots at height like where this box is mounted in after investigating. Seemingly not just to nest.
That or my attempt at humor and suggesting they investigate and may find shelter where they can has been taken far too literal.
Yes sorry, I think you’re right - at night birds will roost in the places you say - not just in trees or sand hills etc as I said earlier. We have sparrows determined to roost in up around our retractable awning at night and rosellas determined to roost in our range hood ducting.
I guess what I’m saying (being pedantic and hair-splitting as usual) is that there’s a difference between roosting at night and nesting in the spring. Birds really only nest in their season when there’s eggs etc involved. I guess some may enter a box to sleep but are only likely to actually nest in there to raise young. I have read read-up a bit on all this over the past year - but still IANAE.
