larknz: Quick Grip clamps have their place, but if you need significant pressure you need a screw type


Found this out a few days ago while fixing my deck. Was struggling to get the Irwin quick clamps to pull a joist into alignment, but did it with ease using a screw clamp. The difference was huge!

It's definitely worth trying to lay your hands on a set of the parallel bar clamps if you can. I find them a lot easier to use than the usual C and F clamps.
