MikeAqua:

I'm fan of F&P I've had good service out of various smart drives over the years.  All top loaders, I can't comment on the front loaders.  We have to have one in the apartment of some unknown brand.  My back and I strongly dislike it, purely from an ergonomics point of view.  Friends have one sitting on a cabinet about 900mm above the floor.  Good set up, if a little heavy to lift in.

I put our frontloader on a 400mm high drawer base. Tilt washer forward, shove base under high side then lift and shove.

From my own experience the best washing machine is an American Maytag. My top loader is 44 years old and still going, sounds like a rumbling tank. Yes they are more expensive but very little can go wrong with them as proven by mine. Solid steel, no plastic and mechanical dials. Very little has changed in them since I bought mine.

Only reason I now want a change is to get one with a smaller footprint in the laundry so I can fit a freezer in there and Maytags are bigger than the NZ 600 wide. I keep waiting for it to break down to give me the push needed, but it grinds on regardless.

I think for a family it’s a good long term investment.

@bung where did you buy the drawer base for the front loader?

I don't know if US appliances are still built like tanks. An old boss visiting his son in Atlanta ~2000 said the appartment block had a supply of spares in basement. Any faulty appliances were just thrown out and replaced.

My washing machine plinth was home built around a 600mm drawer that used to be under an F&P dishdrawer.

+1 for Bosch.

Have a series 6 8kg washing machine and matching drier for the past five years.

The display on the washing machine was intermittent when brand new, but was very quickly sorted under warranty. No other issues since.

We have an AEG 8000 series Lavamat and it’s been absolutely fantastic. When we got it, we were blown away by how clean it gets clothes. It has a really good setting called OKOpower which is just an hour long cycle that does an awesome job for the majority of things.

Just looking online at the differences between Series 4, 6 & 8 in the Bosch Range

The 4 or the 6 is in our price range.

Rough and ready guide to the different series (not universal but accurate in most cases, regardless of product category)…

Keep in mind all Bosch is made in a Bosch factory - they don’t use OEM manufacturing (for appliances). So the build standard should be the same, differences are in components and place of manufacture.

When I refer to features below I really mean fancy stuff like auto cooking on ovens or auto dosing on washing machines.

Home Professional - Bosch’s version of Miele. Bombproof, made in Germany, no expense spared in construction - therefore most expensive.

Series 8 - Fully featured, top of the range feature set. Made in Germany with German components.

Series 6 - Most available features included. German components (so their top of the range motor in the washer for example) but manufactured elsewhere.

Series 4 - More basic feature set. Not made in Germany. Doesn’t use German components.

Series 2 - Basic feature set. Used as event model or volume model (default cooking appliances in spec homes will be Series 2)

If you can afford it, go for Series 6.

Anecdotally - you also get less and less issues (repairs) as you go up the series.

**EDIT** I'm not trying to infer Series 2 is 'bad'. Bosch are one of the manufacturers that doesn't really make any 'bad' products, they start at good and just get better as you spend more.

Others in a similar vein IMO: LG, Miele, AEG, Asko.

Just had ours die and going through the same process.

Does anyone have experience with the twindos system from Miele?

Looks interesting, but can't tell if it's a gimmick or not.

Definitely not a gimmick. It's perfect. They last for a long time, and it's quality stuff.

We also have the refillable containers, but I have much preferred the Miele products, so I don't use them.

We get 10% off every time, plus a few other specials so I order quite a lot of them at once.

I have the WWG660 https://shop.miele.co.nz/en/laundry/washing-machines/wwg-660-9kg-washing-machine-zid11407330/

Good to hear!

Going to get the model up (from the outlet centre $2,799 instead of $3,499) - want the hot water inlet for speedier hot washes.

How do you get the 10% off detergent?

Join the Miele for life club. https://mieleforlife.co.nz/

My wife uses the wool pods sometimes and thinks they are good.

The machine is also spotless and clean from just using twindos. No gunk anywhere.
