@Gurezaemon - I came across this larger trap when I was looking at them, though this includes the container as well:

https://www.pestrol.co.nz/buy-online/predator-outdoor-fly-trap-extra-large/ - it's 24x23x36cm

Don't recall coming across any that just had the trap component.

In the end, I decided to go with two of these small ones from Bunnings and also some additional bait (3 pack for just under $10); I'm not sure if having more or a large one like that above would improve the numbers killed, but it could be worth it if it meant fewer of these f__kers...

The packaging says they last three weeks; ours have been out for a month and yet the pile of flies continues to grow. When the liquid level drops I just add more water - at this point I'm wondering if the decaying dead flies are what's attracting the live ones!

Great! Thanks for the input - I'll take a trip to Bunnings over the weekend.

We had the pleated retractable screens from exceed in Nelson and they were excellent.

I’ve installed a similar product on my house in Dubai. They are excellent and a big improvement on the old style retractable screens

How are you people applying ripCord to the outside base of the house and frames? Is it about wearing gloves and a simple spray bottle?

Battery sprayer, long pants gloves and a shower afterwards

Farmers spray it onto livestock in large quantities, it's not going to kill you. The dire warnings are for the concentrate, and then just generic stuff about spray drift and the like.

Sprayed Ripcord around the base of the house, and the window\door frames including the garage at the weekend.

I have noticed only one or two flies since, and no ants!

Another vote for RipCord plus.

Thanks to everyone for their advice - I ended up getting one of these things and this is the catch from just a few days. The reduction in fly numbers inside the house is dramatic.

I was concerned that it would smell, but unless I get right down beside it, there's barely a whiff, and it is not bad at all. The flies seem to love it though.

I got the Envirosafe Jumbo Fly Trap from Mitre10. It doesn't seem to be their website, but it cost around $28 IIRC.

The Rip Cord seems to be working well this year but I got one of these just in case...

I didn't actually "get him" but I am afraid to ask him to leave.

Flypaper is ugly but man is it effective, not just for blowflies but sandflies, moths, mosquitos, you name it, for a few months every summer I put strips up (over protests) and it's amazing how quickly they fill with pest insects.

Back in the late 60's I cleaned at a butcher's after school. The methods of dealing with flies then were mint scented fly spray and troughs of water and kerosene hidden in the front window behind the fake plastic fern leaves. The flies couldn't help hitting the water and drowning and one of my jobs was changing the full troughs whenever there weren't any customers to see what was happening. At least with the trough you knew where the fly was. If the fly spray came out you had to try and track where the target crash landed.

Coming from OZ, we screen everything. Over the years, we tried a couple of different fly screen providers, mainly for the mosquitoes in bedrooms at night. The kids broke the exceed screen pretty quickly, and we couldn't get it repaired, so we ended up replacing them with Phantom Screens (sorry: noob-no-link).

If you have got aluminium joinery, they popped some capping off, and the insect screen fit within the joinery (see pics). Should probably work for ranch sliders as well.

They are pricey ($1.7k-$3k'ish depending on size) but such a good product if you can get them. Ours are in the Waikato.
