"didn’t have a record of the size." to me is code for mattwnz's supplier originally had someone else making the cabinets.

 

If that is a bead of silicone between top and tile I see no reason that the tiles would get damaged removing the top. 

 

 

Depends on the grout and the trim looks like it has been installed tight to the vanity. Without cutting out the silicone you won't really know.

In person it looks like if the sink top has to be lifted off, the tiles and the silver edging will prevent it being lifted. If the sinks slide off forwards it'd be ok, it'd just need the silicone replaced.

 

This is most indicative image of the damage. Where the panel front meets the edges water has gotten in, making it swell and in some places the veneer is peeling. This is the bottom of the end panel, we have a towel rail further up so it gets water on it fairly frequently.
