I don’t quite understand your response, I’m telling my experience based on switching the lights out and it seems like you’re disagreeing with it?

By definition that's not correct. But the down-lights are probably projecting more light downward and giving greater lux underneath them.

You’d misunderstood the question. This is what I meant as the original question was about replacing the downlights themselves with LED units. Clearly 800 is a lower number than 1400, but in the application of a Downlight the 800 Led Downlight emits more light.

The other thing with the cheap Philips I believe is they're whiter @ 3000 K rather than 2700 K (correct me if wrong) which many people may perceive incorrectly as brighter in comparison.

The colours are indeed different, however I have 3 other adjacent open plan rooms with the cfl’s and irrespective of the colour difference the room with the swapped out lights is noticeably brighter.

I went thru  this exercise about 2 years ago.  Replaced the incandescents with LED bulbs  but they ran very hot and died withing a year.   In the finish I replaced all the old downlights with proper LED  ones and never looked back

scottr: Suspect with all the light going down as opposed to everywhere else that a lower amount of lumens are OK.

Have come across these, 15w at 120 lumens, dimmable, and will fit the current downlight hole without any adapters or re-cutting of the whole.

http://ledx.co.nz/product/15w-led-downlight-120/

Only 22.90 so I might grab one, give it a blast, and if all goes well potentially grab a few more. Anyone come across these or this company in their travels?

I tried their 13w 90mm cutout one with 1040 lumens for about $14, not impressed at all. It's started flickering too. The 14w and 15w ones look to come with a better quality driver, so might be worth trying.

Their website is pretty poor as well, and they ripped off the copy of some other website without even modifying it. Surprised they are a lighting council member to be honest!

Yeah it felt a bit suss. Glad I didn't head that way. Ended up with the philip's G2's which are cheap, but pretty happy with the brightness and style for the money. Have replaced 10 so far and will do other rooms over the next month or two (spread the spend).

Seem to dim OK on the aeotec as well. Dim nice and low but a challenge to turn them back on to the same low level in a stable manner.
