My two Shelly2's are awesome except I'm having an issue with them going off when the Home Assistant service starts which is annoying. Driving the wife crazy. I have them configured with MQTT on stock firmware and one of them wired into a 2-way circuit.

Could using the MQTT retain flag be an option to fix (assuming Shelly make it available to set)? Or is home assistant running the MQTT broker too?

Edit: oops Kiwijunglist beat me to it. But looks like I was way wrong haha! I thought the whole point of retain was for persistence?

Yep, using retain on the Shelly's and nowhere else. Trying to debug with MQTT.fx. Installed new instance of broker in Docker this evening and at first it looked like problem solved but then both Shelly's switched off about 30 minutes ago.

RS820+, DS223, CoreELEC on Odroid N2+, 3 x Echo Dot & 7 x Google Homes connected to Home Assistant on Beelink SEi12.

If you use retain on the Shelly you need to use retain on home assistant as well. I strongly recommend disable retain on everything and kill all old retained messages

Hi all,

Update from my end has been slow due to work commitments soon after the shelly arrived.

I have setup Home Assistant and Node-Red in docker containers running on my NAS - this was a first too and is a great solution. I created a test rig from bulb and some old extension cord and seem to have this working OK. I have used node-red to trigger the shelly when it detects sunset for an example.

Now to see how to wire up to a switch that controls some garden lights as "testing phase 2" - hopefully want cooked the unit or myself :-)

All in all, having this all hang off of my NAS with a cool rule engine has me pretty excited to make time to get my head around HA and look to install more shellys.

Will stick with factory firmware, although interesting that @kiwijunglist has been able to flash Shelly2. Need a bit more knowledge under the belt.

Since the stock firmware now has mqtt option i think you should stick with stock firmware unless you need to do something more "out there" using tasmota.

I'm interested in getting a couple of Shelly 1 relays. Is anyone bringing any in?

They charge $65nzd + postage for 4x Shelly 1 on the Shelly cloud website. I think postage is killer though.

I just ran through the Shelly checkout process and the cost to send 4 x Shelly 1's to NZ via standard post is <$12 and ~$28 NZD via DHL so not too bad. Works out to be around $24 NZD/unit via DHL. Not really worth the effort of setting up a group buy for that?

FYI, the issue I had with Home Assistant turning the Shelly lights off when the Home Assistant service restarted was mysteriously resolved in the update to 0.82.1.
