After I got the images I posted a few days ago I was detectoring around to see if there were any other cooler spots, and found this in the corner of the living room:

I didn't think much of it because it's in a far corner which gets the least flow from the heat pump, but today I had to do some work up in the attic and decided to see if there was anything obvious at that location.  It's not obvious from the central catwalk but once you get in close...

When the builders relocated the previous owners cowboy wiring they pulled out some of the insulation and never replaced it afterwards, so it wasn't just lack of warm air flow, there was zero insulation in that corner of the ceiling.  It's now like this:

Be interesting to see what the readings are tonight, and without the thermal camera I'd never even have known that was even an issue, let alone be able to locate it.

o thats a scary amount of wires going into that junction. can a sparky please comment?

also your making way to much of a deal about where the heat pump will heat. if the room is properly heated, it makes zero difference. the big thing to remember with cameras and infrared thermometers is they measure radiant heat, not the objects actual heat, which varies depending on the material.

It's running to 5W LED downlights, I also suspect two of the cables are disconnected (see previous cowboy owners, they ran to external lights which got removed).  I don't know the exact setup but the total load would be maybe 20-30W.

its more about bad connections than actual load. its not that good to stuff so many wires into a connection. but i havn't done sparky stuff for many decades so i don't know what the go is nowdays. maybe they have connection systems for that sort of setup. hence why i would like a sparkies comment.

Hi Neb, what thermal camera are you using?

Topdon TCView, as a USB-C camera plugin.  They use the same 256x192 sensors that almost everyone else uses but you don't pay FLIR/Seek/whatever prices.  I've also heard good things about InfiRay cameras and things like Tooltop, and then there's a ton of off-brand Chinese ones on Amazon, Aliexpress, Banggood, etc.  Under the hood there's not much difference between them, mostly the same sensors and electronics like the Tiny1-C so often one vendor's app will work on another vendor's camera, for example many Infiray, Topdon, and Tooltop cameras use that core.
