Sorry I just thought I'd add a few extra things here. We recently got some new heat pumps installed, two Panasonics for our home and a cheaper Haier for a rental. The installer said that in spite Mitsubishi Electric's ongoing "very, very quiet" ads, most brands are now about the same in terms of indoor unit noise, for a same size unit. I was surprised to hear that, but this is borne out by the spec sheets that showed very little difference. Smaller units are definitely quieter than larger units, however.

I ended up choosing Panasonic for the home units as I thought they would be the best value for money, and I liked the remote layout (the things that sway our purchasing decisions!). I'm pretty happy with them, but I'm seriously impressed with the Haier unit that got installed. It's clear, easy to use, quiet and seems to be very efficient. And it was one of the cheapest brands that the installer recommended.

Good luck with your install.

I have a new Panasonic ducted unit, as well as 10 year old Daikin and Fujitsu. Daikin is best standard unit, quiet and effective. Fujitsu loud, we removed it recently. Panasonic are fine if you want simple on / off operation but the panels are inflexible and WiFi extremely different to get working, I wouldn't touch Panasonic ducted if I knew what I know now.

Our older ducted Panasonic in the front end of the house has been great. The outside unit was a bit noisy and the installer just told me there was a worn fan bearing. He also advised now and then to wash down the outside of the unit where the honeycomb like mesh are. On ours that’s at the back and side of the unit. Am thinking to pour a bucket of warm water and detergent over the top and let it run down, followed by a hosing from above at a slight angle so that water isn’t aimed horizontally.

It’s definitely the right time to be sorting out any maintenance or installations because there aren’t enough installers and when the regulations take effect in mid winter it will be impossible to find someone.

Our Panasonic ducted unit works well for basic heating and cooling from the control panel, it's mostly the controller and poor WiFi that's the issue. The 7 day timer doesn't let you control the mode, though I'm told if they can get the WiFi unit working the app should.
