Thats a bonus, we stopped using liquid in the old machine as it got a bit gross.

Have you looked into bulk third party detergents with a separate oxygen bleach component?

The Miele stuff is pretty expensive.

We tried some brand from a supermarket and it just wasn't as nice so gave up.

Is it that dear over time? We didn't think it made too much difference.

You can reduce how many ml it uses in the settings if you find it isn't required. I ran it at 1/2 the dose until my wife found out and changed it back :D

Lol - was thinking the same :)

By the looks it's $70 for a 1&2 cartridge give or take which gives you 47 washes (maybe more say 60 if you reduce detergent usage).

If you buy their pack at $172 you get 141 washes, even if you get 10% off seems pretty expensive.

For persil it's $16 for 2l concentrate which will also get you 60 washes, or $22 for 90 washes using powder.

So I was wondering about using bulk detergent from somewhere like southern hospitality or the like.

5L of liquid there seems to be about $30 - $40, and then it's just the oxygen bleach component.

Brought the Miele 860 - the one that includes hot water in - we do a lot of hot washes so should save a good amount of time (WWI 860 9KG Washing Machine | Washing machines | Miele online shop)

Purchased from the outlet centre, saving $700 off retail. Had a ding at the bottom of a side panel - other than that new. Came with everything including 6 months of the detergent.

Interestingly the lady at the store said to use the light wash, not normal as the machines were calibrated for european hard water. So I knocked back the defaults in the machine from 48 mls to 35 of phase 1 and 25 of phase 2 for normal.

Should make the cartridges last a lot longer!

I had a panasonic 10kg machine and vs this miele 9kg the miele is significantly heavier, and substantially quieter - even though it spins at a higher speed.

Shows what happens when you pay for quality.

After going through the 6 months of detergent I'll look at third party detergents for the auto dosing, as should be about 1/3rd the price.

Only issue is going to be finding liquid oxygen bleach in 5l bottles, rather than 25kg!

Got a new F&P front loader 10kg machine during the boxing day sales.  I have to say that it is just awesome.  Clothes are now cleaner,  not lint or soap residue left on the clothes.  It is so quiet that you barely notice that the machine is going.  Same with the spin cycle, the old machine was walking out the door when it spun and the whole neighborhood could hear it taking off.   I was skeptical going with F&P again but pleasantly surprised.

Does yours make a noticeable clunk as it opens and closes the water solenoid valves? That's the only thing I dislike about ours.

It's a spring loaded snapping shut, like a mouse trap. You'd think it would be creating serious water hammer in the pipes.
