Look like the gib crisis is now over https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/129468354/gib-shortage-over-due-to-construction-industry-slowdown

Funny that, it was a supply crisis, and as Gib is made here, its Gib only related (not Covid or Ukraine ). Fast forward, other types of drywall are allowed as ok, now the Gib crisis is over? Its a bit like supermarkets suddenly have rollbacks to 2020 prices, suddenly gas stations are cheaper.

Apparently 'colours' being a problem as GIB had trademarked colours for different types of board.
It came up in a Radio interview and I found this article.

Can you trademark a colour ?
https://thespinoff.co.nz/business/16-06-2022/can-you-trademark-a-colour

""
However, Simplicity Living was told it couldn’t import blue, let alone mauve, green and pink, plasterboard because the colours were trademarked by Fletcher Building.
""

Surely when it becomes a defacto standard then trademarks should be declined or dissolved strictly on common property like colour.

Companies marketing similar but not Pantome exact colour have a chance to win a court case apparently.
However its a huge financial risk and who knows how long a case could be dragged out for.

It would seem it would need some executive action ?
Make colours part of standard then trademarks have to be revoked ?
I imagine the ease of identification of correct product on construction site is a big issue to builders.
You still have the shape of your logo and marking as your personalized identification

Wow.

Colours for a product that will never be seen is quite unreal. The "colour" is on the invoice GibBoard SKU xxxxx

We need to go back to pounds shillings and pence as there is no cents here...

The thing is that the colours overseas have been used for years. The question is how was it allowed to be trademarked and why wasn't the commerce commission consulted to make sure it didn't lessen competition?

I suspect the GIB crisis is easing off. I've just picked up 3 sheets for a kitchen reno and they all came off a pile marked 'sold'. They were a lot cheaper than the dreamers on trademe. $100 ea? GTFO.

The yard was fully stocked for timber as well.

We've got several rooms that are going to have walls/ceilings relined. It'll be interesting to see what the Insurance company's builders use...as it stands the tradies are unavailable until at least October - and the original claim went in in March.

The "Colours" are for the Tradies to quickly distinguish the different types of Gib onsite, also  it also helps for inspectors to make sure that the right types of board are used in the right locaitons.

i.e Bracing/Fire rated/wet area etc
