Sadly this isn't that uncommon.  We're living in our second house in a row that didn't have internal ethernet.  Both built in 2010.  It's just an opportunity to shave costs that many people take.  It's short-sighted, to say the least.  Some things are just better or more reliable wired.

The good news is, provided you have access to the roof space above, it's not a big deal or that expensive to retrofit ethernet cabling.  Kind of amazing what a good installer can get done.

If it weren't for nogs dropping cables down from the top would be rather uneventful. The few places where I have needed to have cables run, the sparkies have always been quick to cut many many holes (to make their job easy). Watching youtube vids of real professions at work managing it wothout much touch ups needed just makes you want to cry.

drilling down through walls has risks and is slow. however i would still prefer that to having to patch up gib and repaint.

Yeah, I wouldn't let anyone run cables if they had to start cutting into plaster board (other than the outlet of course).

I've been lucky so far in the retrofitting that I've done.

It's ACInfinity gear, they're usually shown with black face plates but you can also get white ones. They've got a whole range of cooling stuff, that's just a link to the specific controller used there.

Drilling down from the attic is possible but it's just a question of whether you want to pay, as with anything else. You want to find contractors that do it regularly and have practice.

If you have underfloor access, that's usually a far easier option, as long as you want your outlets closer to the floor than the ceiling...
