A bit late to the party, but another vote for Gordon Vincent.  He installed two units for me in 2020 at different times and was excellent at keeping me up to date.  I called him yesterday for a quote for a new unit at a new address.

I had a pretty average experience with Oxygen Air recently. They did the install without me being there and put the outdoor unit in a really wierd place - not up against the wall but at a 90 degree angle against an adjoining wall. Looks ugly and out of place. To be fair when they came over to give me a quote we didn't really talk about where the outdoor unit would go but the most obvious place was back to back against the wall. Contacted them afterwards to complain but was brushed off and told by the guy who gave the quote that he told me that he would put it there.

The second time I installed I used HVR East Auckland. Very happy with them and would use them again.

90 degrees to a wall is not to bad, tho looks a tad werid.

one thing i detest is people push them hard up against walls, everyone insists on fitting them at the minimum clearance. the more space you give them, the better the airflow, the better they work.

Our Kitchen 7kw Misubishi has died after 10-15 or so years. Well it still tries to go, but something like the thermostat is gone, it will cycle up and then just click, cycle down cycle up and click click.

I was hoping we could reuse it.

anybody repaired the click click issue, I did google it and youtube and seemed a common issue. Id be totally chuffed if its repairable. We might be selling so I dont want to over invest if possible.

depending on if that is cheaply resolvable, we are planning to put a pump on the back of the house and run through roof to our room so the unit is out of site out the back. It would run across the top of the second bedroom so, we considering installing a wall unit in there too. Its prob 4x4 room sizes without counting the ensuite in main room obviously. So straight line.

Fujitsu seems to be everywhere, is Mitsubishi systems as good?

I think ideally if we were staying Id buy a single outdoor pump and use it as a split multi zone wall unit install. That really made sense vs the central ducting.

Define 'cycle up' and 'cycle down'.Fan, compressor, louvers?

Is the click from the indoor or outdoor? Find the manuals for your model unit and get a fault code.

Multi systems don't really seem to be any cheaper here than individual outdoor units. Individual units tend to give better redundancy, efficiency, and can be operated in opposing directions if necessary.

All the big brands are fine.

the panasonic unit you brought in 20xx was super loud.

gross over generalisation, and there has been years since you tried one of their many different models

True. 2021 I think. Be wary. The installers said most Panasonic's of the time were quite loud

Do you know much about the issue?

Cant really explain more than the outside compressor unit powers up, fan spins, then goes to pump by the feel, clicks, shudders a little  and stops/ Cheers.

You see brands I didnt know about around, even Rinnai at bunnings. Will try to go Mtsubishi, Dakin or Fujitsu.

I've rarely worked with Mitsis, and I'm not in the industry any more, but generally the service manuals are fairly exhaustive. Sounds like the compressor might be locked up or inverter fault, but again - fault codes.

Heat pumps can sometimes give you error codes that narrow down where a problem is.  See if you can find the maintenance/repair manual for download and see if your heat pump has that option somewhere.  On our Panasonic, you do something special on the remote and it will send the code to the remote.  But there can also be a little set of LEDs or say a 2 digit display somewhere inside the units to give error codes.

No, no codes. The guy reckoned given its age it could well be a part no longer available.

So we had someone come give a quite, a proper experienced guy with extensive heat pump installation experience, working for the man and last twenty years his own company. He certainly was knowledgeable.

He has 4 highly experienced guys (similar to him working under him, but he said he could do our install).

But the cost.... Im not so sure. The two external heat pumps (2.5kw and 7.8kw) are $3000-3500 to buy retail. He wants $6500. He said they dont deal in cost of units just the price to install is given. Really genuine, nice guy. But $3k for two relatively simple installs in fact one is just replacing the existing unit. Does that sound right?

I dont mind if thats normal, just the other couple I asked for a quote never showed up. So I thought I would ask you guys as so much experience on here.

This site suggests $750 to $1350 to install, I assume they are referring to a single unit. So $3k is still above two of the high end prices of $1350.

i would get the make and model numbers of the heat pumps. some people like to quote the higher heating rating or swap out to the cheaper basic models.

but otherwise a 7.8kw for $3500 and a 2.5kw for $2000, that leaves $1000 for the install which is about right. thats assuming ok brands and not the cheap bottom end stuff.

Its the base fujitsu's, which is fine as that is what we agreed to, the remote offers a lot more than the old model.

But as I was saying, I priced them and retail they are ~$1k for the smaller 2.5kw model and the 7.8kw model can be had for ~$2300. So all up thats roughly $3500 retail inc GST.

If he is asking for $6500 all inclusive, then they are essentially asking for $3000 installation, which according the consumer that is above high end install costings ($1300x2=$2600).

Now, he is a very professional and charming with honesty, but I just feel that is a lot for installation. We were ok to pay it, but with Mortgage rates set to go up yet again, cash is king. We were already getting tight on the last raise so we have to be prudent/careful with our spending.

I believe they are quality at what they do but I did ask him about the price retail vs quote and he just said we do not provide retail cost for the units, but Im not sure how they will give us a receipt without stating the cost of the units, in which I can clearly compare.

It just feels the installation cost is a little high, I hope that is understandable.

have you got the model numbers? i can't find a 7.8kw fujitsu.

for install price, my go to was $1000 per unit and thats on the high side. but it all depends on what it takes to install. replacing linesets etc. if its a long lineset and has to add extra gas etc. but all this depends on what the units cost. also it depends on what you class as a 2.5kw. eg theres $400 difference between a 2.5kw hot and 2.5kw cold heat pump.
