Extermanant bait and stations on their way now.

How long does this stuff take to have an effect? Days? Weeks? Months?

Just checked the NO ANTS baits and can see more ants there today. There were none for a few days but they seem to have come back. Here's hoping this stuff makes a difference.

My ants are slow learners and we are into year 3. I think they just moved to a different part of the house. They loved the bait at first but after a week wouldn't go near.

Sweet, here's hoping my ants take the hint and never, ever, ever come back after getting their hands on this stuff. They're still there now so I'm starting to get convinced the No Ants stuff simply doesn't work. How can it get sold though if it doesn't work??

Extermanant now in place, although having said that I haven't actually seen any ants inside for the last week or so. Let's see what happens now 🤞

Ants have returned, I guess all the rain yesterday drove them inside. I've had the Extermanant stuff down for a few days now but they don't seem to be going for it?

Jase2985:

just use a bottlecap to house the bait

I stand corrected! They weren't touching the bait in the ant cafe (d'oh) so I tried this, and holy crap there must be about 40 of the damn things all over it now. I'm trying this method in another location to see if it has the same effect.

Wondering if maybe the ant cafe is too sealed and they can't smell/detect the bait, but a wide open bottle lid doesn't have the same problem.

with Extermanant it can pay to mix a bit of water in it as it tends to dry out and go solid.

Exterminant generally wipes out a colony in 5 days in my experience.  Notice a big drop off in numbers after a couple.

Having read this post, I picked up some Extermanant and have to say the ants absolutely gobble it up.

However, it's been over 4 weeks now and while it's slowed after the initial big wave of the first few days, there are still lots of ants eating the bait daily.

I know it takes some time to kill the colony, but I'm surprised how many ants are still eating the bait coming up on 5 weeks?

What am I doing wrong?  I'm seeing lots of soldiers hauling dead ants and creating graveyards (which I clean up), but I see no sign the colony is dying.

Use another bait next to your existing applications. Also use ant sand at the extremities

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

That is the sign that the colony is dying. It takes some time to get to the queen. Even when you do another lot of ants will probably replace them.

So 5 weeks isn't too long? I was afraid all I was doing is feeding them...or maybe the Termanant was killing them too fast and not getting back into the colony?

If you have an ongoing ant problem which regular ant poison doesn't seem to solve, check to see whether they are Argentine ants: https://www.doc.govt.nz/nature/pests-and-threats/animal-pests/argentine-ants/

We had these in our old place, absolutely savage and ignored the regular ant bait from the supermarket or hardware stores. We were fighting them for about six months before we discovered what they were.

We ended up solving the problem with this specially designed bait: https://northpest.co.nz/product/xstinguish-argentine-ant-bait-325g/

Within a few hours of putting out this poison the massive trails of ants which were all over our house and garden had disappeared completely.
