driller2000:

We got one of these a couple of months back:

https://www.dicksmith.co.nz/dn/buy/kogan-82l-digital-low-fat-1800w-air-fryer/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=product_listing_ads&gclid=CjwKCAjw55-HBhAHEiwARMCszvn2gbQcYZijn_6rP80kQMdTEHA7gQT3nQdN0ZcyRkWWRk0Ed3zyMBoCbwIQAvD_BwE

Our exp:

  1.

    1. Faster than the oven - ie. less heat up time / smaller volume to heat

  1.

    1. Far less oil used ie. light spray. only and it drains away

  1.

    1. Brilliant for fries, chicken nibbles, savouries, bacon, whole chicken + roast potatoes, dried vegie chips, big breakfast (hash browns, bacon, sausage) in one go, roasted vegetables and reheating KFC! (Lol my body is clearly a temple!)

  1.

    1. Easy to clean.

Massive fan of our air fryer and at $99 I consider it a bargain.

Note: The one we got is LARGE - so it may not fit in your cupboards / pantry - but we have a decent sized kitchen bench and it has its own out of the way corner.

Well, that happens to be one of the models on my short list - $100 is cheap as for a fryer that large.

@driller2000: Can I please ask you my go-to question: how many grams of chips/oven fries can you fit in this beast at any one time? Also, does the drawer have an internal basket and/or a trivet thing on the bottom? (Without the opportunity to view these in-person, is a bit hard to make a comparison, especially on usable volume). Thanks heaps.

We've had the big model Philips one. It's in regular use for years now and works like a charm! Is on the pricier side though.

Yeah, our Philips worked like a charm for six years until... it didn't!

We paid $400 for that, so I guess that's ok value over six years, but I still wonder if we'll get better value for money froma cheap model like the $100 Kogan linked to above.

Edit: Plus $42 for shipping, damn it Kogan! Still reasonable at $142, but that sure does add to the cost...

We generally put in 1/2 bag as that is all we need. I am sure it could do more - just shake it a couple of times while cooking to make sure all surfaces get exposed.

And yes the main cook tray is perforated - so fat drips through into an external bucket - so food doesn't drown in fat.

I reckon just buy one - my partner was skeptical - but i brought it online late one night, as you do - and after initially making faces @ me when it turned up, she quickly saw the benefits of it.  :)

They're also available from Mightyape Here. Same price too.

I also have that one big basket one. Pain in the butt to clean. Also find stacking things in a big pile is not as good as the surfaces that are not in contact with the air are soggy.

Thanks, forgot  to check Mighty Ape. Also only $11.30 shipping, so overall quite a bit cheaper than direct from Kogan.

EDIT: Oops, looks like that’s the 6.2l model, and MA don’t stock the 8.2l one. Larger is def more useful for a family, I think…

I’m really not sure if it’s worth spending an additional $300+ for the Philips XXL so it’s probably between the 8.2l Kogan and the two-drawer Ninja, which appear to be similar in overall volume. Just have to determine which is a more useful set-up…

Almost. I nearly posted the same thing, but the one linked to above is 8.2L, the Mighty Ape model in your link is 6.2L. The 8.2L is on the Mighty Ape website, but not available to order (https://www.mightyape.co.nz/product/kogan-8-2l-digital-low-fat-1800w-air-fryer/34513026)

Cher! I’d picked up the same, and was editing my post to reflect this while you posted below. Thanks for the warning…

I agree about the cleaning being annoying, but we’ve had no problem with sogginess. May depend on what you cook and how, eg shaking while cooking, and I find using a rack inside it ensures things like hash browns cook perfectly with no soggy bottom…

I'm liking the look of the design sold at Kmart and The Warehouse, with the three shelves. It seems cooking something like fish and chips (with fresh fish, not processed frozen fish) would work okay using the trays, more so than with a single basket?

The basket is a nightmare to clean. The trays are amazing.

Thanks. I'm not sure we'd use the basket, it's the tray concept I like the look of.

It does look like a small unit though.

Yeah, as with all products it's horses for courses: for us, the basket type works well as we want volume for things like chips, and while cleaning is a hassle I'd certainly not call it a 'nightmare' (may be different if cooking meat in it, perhaps?). For those wanting to cook flatish individual items on shelves (eg fish) then I get why the oven type would work better. The type I'm really not convinced by in terms of their value proposition are those circular rotary types, eg Sunbeam models sold at Briscoes.

We've decided to go with the large Kogan over the 2-drawer Ninja; the utility of a single large cooking space won out in the end.

Bad timing with ours breaking and now having to wait for the replacement to arrive, as I really did want to try those TikTok-famous pasta chips

That's my thinking too. They recommend just one layer of food when cooking in an air fryer so a unit that has 3 shelves should allow you to cook roughly three times as much as a unit with a single basket.

I popped into my local Warehouse (Glenfield) on Saturday and they had their air fryers on display so you could compare sizes, but unfortunately they didn't have the 3-shelf model.
