@frankv I think you missed the key point of the OP: there was only 10 cm of headspace above the top of the cabinet - no room to get most tools in there.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Bung: Was the whole top of the cabinet removable?

Ah just the middle part which had the fans screwed to it, which was perfect :) The top of the cabinet is welded on.

@LostBoyNZ - wondering how you setup the 12v power supply for the noctua considering the rack ones are 240v (??) ?

I am in a similar predicament of trying to get quieter fans (Guidance on Building Rack Fan Controller Using Ceiling Fan Switch Mechanism (geekzone.co.nz)) on my rack as I have 4 of them in a Dynamix rack. I have nto looked at or pulled out the fan module yet, but will do this weekend.

apologies for the cross posting.

Good question, in my case since I have a PC in there I used a fan extension wire and splitter to run them as case fans.

Without a PC in there though, I see Amazon used to sell a "Coolerguys 3A 100-240v AC to 12v DC Three (3) Fan Power Supply". Unfortunately out of stock but hopefully there's other similar products out there. Amazon AU have a "Coolerguys 100-240v AC to 12 & 5v DC 4pin Molex 2A Power Adapter" and then if you had a fan controller that was molex powered, that would work.
