I was not at home, so was accessing that data over the internet, of which I had plenty, but the house had none.

Must be magic.

void:

I'm looking at a system like this. Have you had any issues with the PW3 going into calibration mode?

So we just had a 24 hour period of calibration.

Seems to be a battery conditioning or maintenance routine.

What would be the issue??

I don't think it's any specific issue, rather just required maintenance for the battery.

prob:

Can you please share the details of the system, the final cost, your normal usage and power plan / company so we all can compare?

Final cost so far: $53K. So far because we will add a Powerwall3 Expansion Unit when they become available.

I can't find a breakdown of the cost by component.

Installation included:

  • Network Lines Application and approval
  • Fully installed solar system
  • Fully installed Tesla Powerwall
  • Certificate Of Compliance
  • Record Of Inspection
  • Hopergy / S-5! racking and rails

Harrisons organised with Counties Energy, but we paid for, installation of import/export meter: $130

Power Plan: Genesis - Plus Standard Anytime

Our average daily power usage over 2024 came to approx 51.5kWh. We did have an extra family staying with us on and off for 6 of those months so it should normally be a bit less than that.

To recap, the panels started producing on Feb 21, mid-afternoon.

We started exporting on Feb 28.

Power bills are not by calendar month, they roll over between 19-21 of the month:

March was a pretty good month sunshine wise. We exported on all but 2 days.

April is looking a bit shite.

Roll on winter!

May I ask Kiwifidget, or perhaps if anyone else is in the same boat as me....

Usage is very close to mine, at over 50 kWh a day average- I've hit 60 kWh/day sometimes. You have more panels vs me at 24 x 440-watt bifacial/with 16 kWh home battery - Sigenergy system.

We have 2 PHEV vehicles, one only has an 8 kWh battery. The BYD Shark has a 30 kWh ---on average, it needs a top-up of 10 kWh or more a night - my 16 kWh house battery cries.

Are you charging any EV vehicles? If so or anyone else....What plan with your power company are you on? EV plan or Solar plan.

I am with Meridian, they have an EV Plan or Solar plan ...I'm a bit paralyzed with what to go with. I am leaning towards the solar...idk

EV Plan 2 Years
Day (of Day/Night) Cents per kWh 36.65c (exclGST) 42.15c (inclGST)
Night (of Day/Night) Cents per kWh 16.10c (exclGST) 18.52c (inclGST)
Daily Charge Cents per day 257.33c (exclGST) 295.93c (inclGST)

buy back at 12 cents kWh

Solar Plan - 3 years
Anytime Cents per kWh 21.40c (exclGST) 24.61c (inclGST)
Controlled Cents per kWh 14.87c (exclGST) 17.10c (inclGST)
Daily Charge Cents per day 360.53c (exclGST) 414.61c (inclGST

buy back at 17 cents kWh

I am also running 16kw Sigenergy battery at home and 33 panels.

I used Chat GPT to work out which plan was best by putting in the daily charges and variable rates of Meridian, Contact and Octopus Battery and solar plans and it confirmed my suspicion that Contact was best because I could charge car + battery in the free window. I have a Model Y so a decent amount of power to get for free. The free power outweighs more competitive buyback rates due to my battery storage.

So I went with good nights Monday - Friday from 9pm-12am free power. I set my sigenergy system to go self sufficient mode outside those hours and to pull from the grid in the free hours. So basically my power overnight comes from the battery, the solar recharges the battery (usually down to 80% of 16kwh capacity) and exports the rest. Looking like I won't be charged consumption charges with our setup. Waiting to get a couple of months power bills and kill the gas connection to do a full review. So far I haven't pulled anything from the grid outside my free hours for a few weeks.

We are just a few days away from the shortest day, Jun 21. Can we be expecting the panels to start doing better from that date on, on average?

While the 21st of June is indeed the shortest day (solstice), the earth is actually furtherest from the sun on the 3rd of July (apoapsis). So it might not pick up much for a few more weeks!

So hours will start increasing, but the sun will still be weakening until July 3.

Does apoapsis happen at the same time every year as well?

Here's what we got from our solar installer. July should improve slightly, but August is where it starts picking up properly, then obviously as the days get longer and cloud cover is reduced it keeps getting better until Feb when it starts going down again. We're doing a bit better than these estimates.
