That's it!.

Red arrow is ambient (warmer) air, blue arrow cold air coming out of the unit after heat removed.

Technically the warranty is compromised (void?) if these clearances are not met.

If clear space either side I'd probably not be too concerned with the 150mm to the wall at the back but its mentions combustible surface and the refrigerant is propane!

looking at the photo, that's not 600mm.

Not even 150mm

That's bad, looks like it may be touching the wall. If so, its no wonder you are getting noise further into the house as its transferring the vibration through the structure.

Why do so many tradespeople appear to not read the install manuals and follow the diagrams. Sigh

Electrical ?manager and plumber ?manager came around. They were not impressed by state of it.

They happy to rectify, however moving it out now encroaches on pathway, and rotating means pipe might stick our over porch.  So we might relocate the whole unit slightly.

It was one of the options on the quote, but based on dimensions they had sent me, we chose to leave it in same place.  The dimensions they sent me didn't account for the air gap and pipes sticking out, which would have influenced our original decision where to locate it.

So I've asked them to come to party on reduced cost to relocate.

Waiting to hear more....

That must be a relief when others are accepting of the problem. I get myself worked up expecting a fight!

I'd only pay the difference in the quote for the relocation as they also should have given you the right advice. It's a good learning experience for them to get it right next time.

If you are going to relocate it, consider any noise that may be heard inside. I'd be cautious putting it next to a bedroom.

And also think about the neighbors. Most HWHP are not super noisy but they do make noise from the compressor and the fan.

If they had oriented facing the correct way with a spacer behind the unit like my picture there would have been more than enough space for the pipework to be run behind the unit.  Like this other install I carried out.  No hot water heat pump should be installed touching a property. This was a super easy install for a plumber as the hot and cold was already there. If in doubt follow the instructions.

Got my 300L carrier blue installed yesterday by A2W. I am very happy with the results and performance. Given the right right installation and house insulation, I cannot hear it at all inside the house. Water is also really hot. Great recovery too.

That looks tidy as!

We still haven't got ours sorted.  After initial visit to look at the work, I've been chasing for 2 weeks for plumber and electrician to figure out solution.  But finally got the solution yesterday to fix the original install, relocate the cylinder away from the house, and a very agreeable price compromise.  1 week until it gets done, so I'll post pics once done.

That's a nice tidy installation! The only thing I'd do is insulate the copper pipe from the pressure temperature relief (PTR) valve. But that's being very picky, if you put your hand on it, it will be warm so losing some heat there.

We installed a Rinnai HydraHeat Hot Water Heat Pump ~6 months ago in Lower Hutt. Very happy with it. I've added some commentary about why we choose this particular unit over here https://www.reddit.com/r/diynz/comments/1ejnqo6/comment/niue3cq/

Install fixed up, and moved pump away from house and not touching.

A huge improvement over previous, and pipes insulated this time.

Got a bit of landscaping etc to tidy up now.

Thanks everyone that helped with advice and pictures of theirs! :)
