Just a warning to people who do this, particularly with older dishwashers, you've got a device full of electronics, some at 240V, and with heating elements that's also got water running through it. If something goes wrong while you're asleep, it can result in a fire, or at least a lot of toxic smoke from burning/melted plastic. I'd be careful about running something like this while you're asleep...

Reasonably relevant. Last year rellies of ours had a serious house fire caused by the electronics in their dishwasher. An Asko, about 20 years old I suppose. They weren't home, they had put the dishwasher on before they left to go away for a couple of days. They still aren't back in the house...

After using our new f&p dish drawer for the past few months I've found an inherent problem that must be common with all such units. Condensation inevitably forms on the roof of each drawer and when open can drip onto the surface below on the inside of the machine.

This could be limited by never opening the machine mid wash and leaving it to properly dry at the end of a cycle I guess. The surfaces that the drips land on look like they are designed to acommodate this but some drips are landing on bare metal. There's wiring that runs through this.

I disagree. We have had three DishDrawers now (three houses, installed one in each). They are great.

I have not had a plate I cannot load in that I could have loaded in s normal dishwasher - we do have some massive bowls that I have to put in backwards (with the mouth of the bowl facing the back of the dishwasher), but they wouldn't fit in the standard Smeg dishwasher we had previously (at all). I think they are easy to load.

The only issue is that the bottom drawer probably gets less use as it is further away. If I had the room in the kitchen, I'd install two single drawers so they were both just under the bench - very easy to load then.

They exist, my ancient LG, which must be at least ten years old (came with the house) has a timer on it. I wouldn't consider anything without one.

Which is really annoying for toasters, they come with a zillion useless gimmicks but it's almost impossible to find one that lets you know how long you've still got to wait before you can have your toast. This is something that's pretty much standard in the US and Europe on newer toasters, but the best I was able to find here when I was getting one (unless I wanted to pay silly prices) was the Breville Smart Toast with its LED bar-graph approximate time indicator.

ditto. I have no issue with the space nor the cleaning. I have three sets of dinner plates, one of which is huge and square shaped and fits perfectly well. Space to spare even.

We have lots of plastic plates\cups\bowls\containers from the kids so the F&P dishdrawers I picked up 2nd hand a few months ago lasted less than a week in the kitchen. The plastic items would get moved around inside and end up upside down filled with water as there weren't any flaps to hold them in place. My 13yo F&P dishwasher (been repaired by myself multiple times) is finally starting to go terminal, so I could be on the hunt for a new one this weekend.

I had two double f&p dish drawers and two singles. The two doubles were both faulty. The second was a replacement under warranty when the first one died at four months. The second one leaked slowly through the cupboards and did a lot of water damage that wasn't apparent until the unit was being replaced. That one lasted six months. After replacing flooring and cupboards I went with two single dish drawers instead of a double. This was a space and design decision BUT both F&P, service techs, and the retailer told me the singles were more reliable. One died and wasn't replaced. The day after the warranty ended on the other one the electronics burned out. F&P would not meet me even part way on the cost of replacement (ONE flipping day!). By the time I got rid of it, it was six years old, had had the electronics replaced twice, hose replaced, faulty insulation done, and a new heating element after a bit of solder came off. I will NEVER, EVER buy another F&P dish drawer.

I've since learned to love, love, love Bosch dishwashers. Long may they run!

I have F&P dishwasher for sale if anyone interested. (in Auckland). Old model, used only few times. In good working condition. Found that we do not need dishwasher and better use the space it occupies for a freeser.

The dish drawers have a gland which lowers down to seal the top of the drawer. If you place items that are taller than the edge of the drawer, it will not seal properly. Likewise if you have sharp items facing upwards they may puncture the gland. This could be part of the water leakage issue as described above.

Dish drawers are more appropriate for small households. Some people love them, some hate. We have them at the holiday house, but will probably replace with a full sized unit if they ever die.

The full sized Bosch at home is great.

I think they did away with the gland thing a few years ago (the first release had an inflatable tube that sealed it, and sharp knives kept popping them). I think the top of the cabinet now lowers onto the drawer surround, but I suppose something still could prevent it sealing.

Ended up buying a Bosch SMS68M38AU over the weekend. We took a dinner plate and wine glass with us to test how things fit in, and this one worked well. I learnt some brands/models have a variable time wash which sense the number of particles in the waste water and move onto the next cycle once that gets down to a certain level. This dishwasher is quiet as (especially compared to the old F&P), average cycle is about 2:30. So far (2 washes) very happy with it.
