@wash How do you manage to track just the ducted heatpump consumption ? From the energy meters Ive had in the past they clip onto the main lead in the outside box and monitor total consumption. My heatpumps / ducted system isn't plug-in either so gets lumped in with all the other powered on items.

you can clamp the individual circuit

Okay. So clamping the circuit / cable exiting the breaker box inside the garage instead of the mains lead into the consumption metre on the outside of the house.

yep, can clamp any cable you like to monitor.

You may need to open the breaker panel to do so, which technically is not something you are supposed to work on.

All good. Having seen how tight it is in there I don't plan on digging around too much. Does it have to clamp the live only or can I locate the cable outside of the panel which also generally has the neutral and earth as well and clamp that.

Has to be the live or neutral only, otherwise they cancel each other out and you will get nothing.

30 days Power 404 Kw = $123.87. Fixed line charge = $10.67 total $134.54

Gas Gas 39 days = $11.28 Fixed line charge 44.10 Total $55.38.

Total for power plus gas = $ 189.92 after discount $175.25

I would never get gas installed in a new house due to the robbing line charges. We have a gas central heating and so called instant hot water.

But I have no line charges as I use 45KG bottles, and the local fuel garage that supplies us has no monthly fee at all. i pay $100/45kg's and have two bottles and an auto switch-over setup with free changes/delivery. I LOVE gas instant water and instant heat Hob and would never go back :)

We had two gas bottles at Tauranga for heating in the lounge and they cost a fortune over the winter. Polled them out and put in a electric Aircon system. Way cheaper..

@old3eyes how many KW/Hr of gas did you use on that bill? Sure the extra line charges are annoying but having a really cheap per unit rate makes up for it. I would love to get Natural gas installed in my house. But unfortunately no gas pipes available in my area. Despite living in an urban part of Auckland.

As for gas heating, there are lots of gas fires out there that are only around 10% efficient. And gas heaters that are only around 60% efficient. So not surprisingly if you have one of them especially on LPG, It would be very expensive to run.

Myself - I still have LPG. Which I use for cooking (both hobs and oven) and an unflued heater that connects to a bayonet point so it also uses the gas from the 45KG bottles. It meant that I could go on a peak / offpeak price plan with Flick Electric. To get the really cheap offpeak power, And then the LPG covers the main peak time loads that would otherwise have to be from electricity. (Average electricity on an "anytime" plan with Flick electric were pretty much the same as LPG). I only use the unflued LPG heater if I want heat during peak times. Otherwise electric heaters or my waste oil boiler. Because my house is quite draughty, I don't get any condensation problems from the unflued gas heater.

If you're referring to the current gas bill here in Morrinsville 124kWh @ 9.10c / kWh. = $11.28. As the gas central heating is now being used I suspect it will be way over twice that next meter read bill.

Annual usage was approx 6000 kwh.

Thinking to move to low user plan (not sure of what difference will that make), now that we are only 3 people and smaller house (relocated)

Nothing as clever as using a meter. The ducted heatpump keeps track of and graphs its estimated power usage.

So been using my Efergy Ego to monitor the dryer and dishwasher (just for 1 cycle).

Tuesday - 2.97kwh (1 dryer cycle and 1 dishwasher cycle)
Wednesday - 3.70kwh (2 dryer cycles)
Thursday - 1.78kwh (1 dryer cycle)

So I'd say that the dryer and dishwasher would add around 3-5kwh per day depending on how many cycles of each we use.

Today I turned off the hot water at the switch board for 6 hours so will see (once the hourly data comes through) whether this is causing excessive usage.

No need, @KillerHulk. they have the Annual Price Plan Review where if you could be on a plan better suited to your use, they'll automatically switch you to it. Under 8000kWh/year you're financially better off on a low user plan.

Single household, heating and cooking on natural gas. Living in the Netherlands.
Trying to lower my carbon footprint
Five years ago i had a energy consumption of 2560 kWh and about 1500 m3 gas
Too much. And I started to lower my energy consumption

Last 12 months I used 760 kwh electricity and 770 m3 gas
Last month It was 52 kWh electricity and 14.5 m3 gas
This time of the year (summer) I use 11.5 - 12.3 kWh a week,

The average for a single household here in the Netherlands is 1700 - 1800 kWh
So I have a low energy consumption and a low carbon footprint.
I need that for my credibility when I talk too much about climate change.
