3 years on the only issue I've had with my ryobi is the plastic handle grips breaking but I see they changed that design since. Batteries are still doing the job and are still available 3 years later too. Same design as new models.

The longevity of the battery is the biggest gamble though and not one I can help with.

I've had my EGO set-up now for just over 2 years (Mower, Trimmer and Blower). I only have two batteries (5Ah and 2.5Ah) as the Trimmer was a skin only deal that came with the Mower.

Very happy with mine, I haven't noticed any loss in power, nor degradation in battery life. I don't have a large section but I can still easily mow and trim my entire section on just the 5Ah battery. The 2.5Ah battery is more than enough to sweep out my garage and blow the clippings off the driveway. The Mower is capable of mulching but I prefer to use the catcher for the cleaner finish and it stops the dog dragging in so much crap from outside.

I am guessing we have the same model. I bought mine labour weekend last year and pretty happy with it. No battery degradation I can tell so far. Only complaint I would say is that using the line trimmer with the 5Ah gets pretty tiresome after about 10-15 mins. Pretty sure the trimmer was designed for the 2.5Ah and the weight of the battery makes it unbalanced. I thought there might be a harness for the trimmer but don't believe there is. Do you find the same? Or do you use the 2.5Ah in the trimmer?

Looking at buying a hedge trimmer and was thinking it might be similar, as the 5Ah battery is quite hefty. Wonder if buying with the 2.5Ah is the better option. Although would be overkill as I can usually get about 2.5 mows of my lawn with one battery.

As it happens I've recently hit issues with my Ryobi 36v mower. Well, it simply stopped operating while I was mowing the lawn last weekend!

I took it back to Bunnings, where they informed me it was a replacement warranty so no repairs offered (apparently sent back to China where they're refurbished).

They tried to get in a new skin (ie, I'd have kept my existing battery and charger), but were unable to source one - so on Saturday I dropped off my old battery and charger and picked up a brand-new mower. It's also a revised version, which is now $100 cheaper - so they gave me a $100 refund. Plus, as it's a completely new mower, my six year warranty has started again.

So, it's crud that it stopped working, but excellent service getting a replacement.

I thought about putting my $100 refund towards a new battery but am totally put off by the price - $300! I think I'd rather have breaks than pay that much.

had the same thing but with a line trimmer. pleasantly surprised

Had no noticeable issues with battery degradation on my ryobi batteries.

I can go round with the big line trimmer (straight handle and harness), pop the battery on charge while I have a cuppa, and by the time I'm finished the battery is recharged for a full mow. I haven't tried doing both on one charge yet. No apparent battery fade but only go it last summer. There is some minor fraying on the catcher bag which wasn't that well stitched but that's fixable.

I have half an acre to mow. Before we shifted in, I was under time pressure to mow it and get home again on the same day.

I bought two fast chargers and two more batteries. This let's me mow continuously even when the grass is tall and wet and it's heavy going.

Be interested in anyone experience with the Makita mowers.

My 2 stroke is failing and the shop said $200 for service and repairs - so thinking might be time to move on.

I would like to get something that will work well in a tool battery eco-system and I think Makita would be my pick of those. I also wonder about buying skin tools from overseas - but thats a digression.

In terms of garden equipment I'd go Mower, line trimmer and hedge trimmer with extension pole.

I have a small lawn, but the cheaper Makita (DLM431), is barely any cheaper than the much more impressive (DLM460), and looks pretty junky compared. Be interested if anyone has either of these and what your experience of them has been.

I do find the trimmer with the 5Ah battery a bit tiresome so normally use the 2.5Ah battery. I have no need for a hedge trimmer but I'm really impressed with the blower. I would recomend that you do pick up a 2.5Ah battery if you're going to get a 3rd tool in this ecosystem. It just give you more flexibility.

I bought the DLM431 because I already have the Makita power tools and batteries. I ended up buying the one with a double charger and two batteries to have four 5mA.

Our section is 875m2 with a 140m2 house in the middle and 45m2 garage in one corner. Two batteries aren't enough for all of it os having the spares is crucial if I want to do it all in one go.

The mower is light and easy to move around and whilst it does the job I've found it to be a little disappointing to be honest.

If the grass gets too long I need to make one pass at 40-45mm before doing another at 35mm, otherwise it just chokes in the dense stuff. If it's a little wet the grass clogs where it goes from mower to catcher and you have to keep opening the lid and moving it away.

It's also feels pretty fragile. On his first go my son hit the front wheel on the garage and it bent in at 45 degrees ! He claims he wasn't going quickly and given how easy it was to bend back it wouldn't surprise me.

Overall it's ok, but it's not the daemon many online videos show it to be.

I’m the same, only got 6-7 tools so far though so may not be to expensive to move over to ozito, those prices are pretty bloody good.
I have found by purchasing the generic ryobi batteries off trademe though make sure it a wee bit cheaper, especially the 5 ah ones
