The previously mentioned Kmart model with the shelves seemed to have a number of negative comments around poor quality and failures within the first 12 months of use.

We were near a Briscoes yesterday and had a look at the many models on offer there (most at ~50% off RRP). We ended up purchasing a Sunbeam model with the same layout/design as the above. https://www.briscoes.co.nz/product/1093237/sunbeam-4-in-1-airfryer-and-oven-black-afp5000bk/

Slightly more than we wanted to spend, but Briscoes have always been good if there are any problems down the line (not that we've had many).

Just bought the 6.3 litre model from mistral that countdown is flogging for $100, impressed so far. Our 4-5 year old small Kogan one died so needed the replacement.

this one seems to run hotter, so had to adjust my cooking time when I’ve tried it over the past week.
impressed so far.

I too read a number of negative comments about the Kmart one. Most of the bad comments mentioned that the door fell off, but after reading the manual for that model I see that the door is meant to come off for cleaning purposes, so now I'm wondering if those people didn't know the door was meant to be able to be pulled off and think that they've now got a broken air fryer!

Please let us know what you think of the Sunbeam model after you've tried it a few times.

Can’t recommend a brand but we used to have one that didn’t have a rotating basket insert and chips were a pain as they needed flipped on the tray but our one with the rotating basket insert cooks chips well. Our old, original one was cheaper than this one and cooked just as well otherwise. I don’t think our old one died, I think my husband just wanted a new one, we had the old one a super long time.  I think it's like computers, you find a middle ground and that's probably the best value. We use our one a LOT more than the oven. Pretty much only use the oven for pies and cookies. Everything else is the air fryer or outdoors. I'm kind of sceptical of this new one lasting as long as our old one did.

Wondering if there would be any thoughts on this airfryer -

https://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=5773023

which Pricespy reckons is cheap at the mo.

Might be interested, but I've been interested in airfryers in general for about 5 years, so...

Seems a good price but is it any good ?

Edit - and thanks for the unlock...

We have the Philips XXL and previously had the XL (as mentioned in posts on this thread), and I would totally recommend either. You'll see in this thread we tried replacing the first XL with a Kogan unit; what this doesn't cover (but is on another thread) is the Kogan one was so cr@p we got our money back, and spent quite a bit more to go with a Philips XXL. It's worth the extra cost to buy quality, and $200 for the XL is an excellent price.

While on this subject, I read Consumer's pedalling the same line they've run previously that airfryers can cost similar or even more than a full oven to run - I call bollox on this, as not only do they heat up WAY quicker but they cook quicker than a conventional oven.

Yep, we do seem to use the oven quite a bit, but for very simple stuff, which is about 20min warning and up to 30min baking, so these do sound better. The only thing really is the dual zone different temp ones seem like they'd be useful vs compromising on a temp or cooking things in succession for one meal.

Just ran into town and weathered the crowds for Boxing Day sales, and bought this (Sunbeam DiamondForce™ 3-In-1 Digital 5L Air Fryer) at one of those rare Briscoes Sales. The teen and his friends are already super impressed at how easy chips are to sort out.

This this is a US shootout of air fryers

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwKAjdqCd4Q

their winner (5:11) is this one sold at Harvey Norman for $219

https://www.harveynorman.co.nz/home-appliances/kitchen-appliances/grills-and-cookers/instant-pot-5.7l-vortex-plus-air-fryer.html

There are cheaper models out there but I am tempted but it does not appear to be on sale at the moment.

Certainly Briscoes has a few cheap ones for < $150 but I like the features of the Insta Pot

If anyone is looking for inspiration for new ideas on what to cook in their air fryer I can recommend this book.

Epic Air Fryer Cookbook

Only had it a week, made 3 different recipes and each were delicious. Its full of different ideas than just fried chicken and chips.
