Just an early observation on running cost: The Genesis Energy app provides a “prediction” on what the month’s energy use will be after a few days of normal use. I had my now 18yo shift in with me in June and sent our bill up to $380 (power + gas). So far for this month we’re sitting at a prediction of $200 before the discounts Genesis like to provide are applied. Other note is the weather has warmed a little so not been running the heat pump.

Oh wow that's impressive! Did you put any timers? Or did you just let it run automatically to heat when needed? How often does it run in a day?

At the moment I’m not running any timers, I’ve just got it set to 65C. Only times so far when I hear it spin up is after someone has had a shower so maybe a few times a day

Oh wow! How long does it run to get back to 65 after someone took a shower?

Pretty open question, it depends on how much water is used. it also depends on the flow rate of the shower.

About 2/3rd of the shower water will be hot water.

It claims 71L per hour recovery rate from its 2.5kw heat pump.

Interesting that the Carrier Blue is the same as https://tradedepot.co.nz/heat-pump-water-heater-280l/

I checked the manuals supplied by Carrier and the ones in Trade depot for Midea and they are the same

The difference is the Warranty and price

Midea is 5 years for tanl, 3 years for condenser and 1 year for parts and labour. Significantly cheaper than Carrier Blue.

Carrier is 10 years, 5 years labour.

That was one of the big deciding features: length of warranty

The newer model of the carrier blue which a2w is offering got the electric magnesium anode, which in theory does not need replacing unlike traditional anodes which you have to replace every 2 years.

Pretty sure it’s the same as the Ecospring model as well https://ecospring.co.nz/.  The last one I looked at had the same Midea manual as well. Looks to be a comprehensive 5 years warranty on it.

I checked, the Carrier Blue is more efficient by having a higher COP, has a faster recovery. So they are different. The compressor is made by midea though

Did the hot water heatpump made changes to your bill?

We installed a Rinnai HydraHeat Hot Water Heat Pump ~6 months ago in Lower Hutt. Very happy with it. I've added some commentary about why we choose this particular unit over here https://www.reddit.com/r/diynz/comments/1ejnqo6/comment/niue3cq/

I posted back at the start of the year about the Rheem MDc-180 I had installed, and its been working great. I mentioned at the time it had a 'wifi' symbol on the screen, and I thought it had no Wifi.  But when I was changing settings today (daylight saving and timers) and found if you hold down the Power button for 5 seconds, the Wifi light starts flashing!

I assume this means it has wifi?  I am sure I read somewhere the AU equivalent models do have Wifi.  Anyone know details on how to connect? I did look at the "Rheem SEA" app which is just a Tuya clone.  I did try SmartLife (which I use for some exiting Tuya hardware I have) but couldn't connect.

Any thoughts?  Do I need a specific app?  Is it just not Wifi? I don't mind either way - it wasn't a feature on my shortlist, but it would be nice to have :-)
