Have a Hometech Anti-Condensation Device. They want $97 for a new filter.

Any thoughts on a DIY option, anyone tried doing this?

Presumably you want it to filter quite well without reducing air flow too much. Be interested in what materials people would suggest as well as sources.

I was thinking a tensioning strap from bunnings would keep it secured.

Based on the filter I have which looks like it was made in sewing class at Intermediate I think it can not only be cheaper, but better too...I assume the cost is not in the material but rather in the "labour and overheads".

My time when I am not at work is worth nothing in a monetary sense, of course there are things that I would rather do than make a filter, but per the quality comment above, the price irks me and I enjoy DIY type stuff.

Hence my plan will be to find a piece of material which is roughly a 400mm square (300mm opening) which acts as a filter. I will then keep it in place with a tensioning strap. Given that I have to get in the roof anyway and would have to drive for ~ an hour to get an OEM from the supplier I think I would come out ahead (although this obligatory XKCD seems appropriate).

Worth noting that the best DVS one is only $88. The stock one is $54.

If you are running a filter for your roof space you are mad to use a home made solution, particularly if you have older fibreglass batts in your ceiling.

Bear in mind you are pumping this air into your living and sleeping space, HEPA filters do cost a reasonable amount. If you want a cheaper solution you may be able to find a generic alternative, especially if you shop around. Someone lilke filters direct is worth trying.

Thanks for the link, I am not planning on doing a bad job (hence posting here before actually doing something).

I want good filter material, not cheap stuff, but figure what I can make is going to be better and cheaper than what I am being sold (based on what I already have).

Hmmmm they don't seem to do a filter for a circular manifold, but they do sell filter material...
