Do people cover their outdoor furniture?

Got a set of low end say 1.5m ish diameter wooden table that i got off trademe

Gave it umpteen coats of varnish (noob!)

I really want to cover it with something! Last resort is ugly tarp ... Giant plastic sheet is fine i guess but ... What do people do?

Go to your local hardware store (eg Mitre 10, etc) and have a look at their range of covers. Find one that fits your dimensions roughly. Boom - rocket science lesson complete :)

Dang, that reminds me there’s another job for the weekend. I use Cabots oil once a year and if I was keen I'd probably put another coat on in Autumn.

For me its just a quick clean with bucket and soap and then a coat of oil once a year. Easier than dragging out the cover and then finding somewhere to store it. My BBQ gets covered over winter but that’s all.

Being a noob I coated the table to looking smashing then realised if I flipped it to do the under bits that would damage the top.

Do you do the bottom first then the top?

What about the nooks and gaps that you are bound to miss a little will the water get in and cause problems?

Its only when I am pretty smashed that I see the underside of the table. By that stage I don't care what it looks like. I'd never have thought to have oiled the bottom - just the surfaces exposed to the sun and rain.
