Hey all. Our 1960s house has softboard lining in the bedrooms - at least I think that's what it's called. It's low density fibreboard wood about 12mm thick. My wife thinks it might be unsafe as wall lining because it's probably not fire retardant. She wants to pull it all off and line with plasterboard. It's the same kind of thing they use between office cubicles and on classroom walls so I'm not sure it's that bad.

Does anyone know if this stuff is safe to leave on the wall or should I rip it all off?

After some Googling, I think the stuff might be Pinex.

Is it worthwhile relining with gib? Could be an expensive job as the rooms are quite large..
